This! ⬇️ Supportive parents and carers are the best cheerleaders a budding musician can ever have 💪🙌 Thank you!
When I adjudicated the piano classes at Lytham Performing Arts festival the other day, I made the point that we need to thank the parents and carers.
➡️ For bringing students to lessons and waiting patiently
➡️For paying lesson fees when life has a million other expenses
➡️For paying attention to the home learning to be carried out, and ensuring that students are committed to their daily practice sessions, without which progress is stilted and often unsatisfactory
➡️For providing an instrument, and a comfortable and quiet place to practise
➡️For bringing them to performance events to share their growing skills in communication and performance
➡️For being there to motivate, to cheer, and to comfort when the going inevitably gets tough.
Parents and carers: you don’t know how much your contributions mean.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but we’ve been busy behind the scenes!
With the help of my ‘piano buddies’ we just love helping budding musicians discover the joy of playing piano and making music 🎶
🎹 Pupils had fun taking a ‘30 piece challenge’, learning 30 pieces or songs over the year, complete with prizes 🏅
🎶We’ve been playing games and use hand bells to reinforce musical concepts and pitch
🎵Lovely pieces of artwork have been created through listening to pieces 🎨
🎹 Some pupils are preparing for a local music festival coming up next month- exciting!
🎵And lots of singing too!

So true 🎶
Why do people pay for piano lessons?
The answer is….they don’t pay for piano lessons. They pay for so much more.
- They pay for their child to learn what it takes to commit to something meaningful;
- They pay so that their child can learn the magic of creation, of forming something beautiful using their hands;
- They pay so that their child recognises the power of discipline, of working at something consistently, at least five days per week, honing their skills and building their fluency;
- They pay so that their child understands not to quit when the novelty has worn off and the work must set in;
- They pay so their child learns that they must still put in the work, even when tired and grumpy, not just giving up and spending hours on TikTok;
- They pay so that they can learn the joy of creating music with others: listening intently, and learning to chop, change and compromise;
- They pay so that they realise that it’s not just “enjoying themselves” but working meticulously on small details;
- They pay so that they DO enjoy themselves;
- They pay so that their child creates neural pathways that impact every single area of the curriculum;
- They pay so that their child develops the most incredible fine motor skills;
- They pay so that their child sees that art can be transcendent, and can accompany us through our darkest times;
- They pay because music puts us in touch with something that can’t be otherwise expressed.
I can’t even begin to imagine a world without my piano; it’s been there through thick and thin ; it is a solace and source of inspiration.
Paying for my piano lessons is one of the biggest “thankyous” that I owe my parents.

🎶 I often play pieces for my pupils to listen to, we’ll either discuss it afterwards, including using descriptive words or they’ll create a picture as they listen and their imagination takes them on a journey.
❤️I love these moments in my lessons; creating, learning and having fun with games too!

Just for fun!! Type out the first part of the text then use predictive text and let’s see where these go!
I’ll go first! 🎶😅
“I started to play a song on the piano but then my head went down the stairs so the rhythm was very different from what it was like in my life 🎶😅

I just loved stepping back in time to the home in Mallorca where Chopin spent the winter of 1838-1839 and to catch a glimpse of what life was like there for him.
Among several pieces he composed his 24 Preludes op.28 here including his famous ‘Raindrop prelude’, one of my favourites!
And to see the piano he composed on was fabulous! What a beautiful and peaceful place to gain inspiration from and what a view from the garden! 🎶
