🎄✨ Season’s Greetings from Westcountry SEN! ✨🎄

As we wrap up the term, we want to say a big thank you to our families — and a huge well done to every child for all the effort and progress this year. 💚

Here are a few properly interesting Christmas facts to share over the holidays:

🎁 Christmas crackers were invented in London in the 1840s — inspired by the “bang” of French bonbons.
🕊️ “Silent Night” was first performed in 1818 in Austria (legend says it was played with a guitar).
📮 Robins became a Christmas symbol because Victorian postmen wore red uniforms and were nicknamed “robins”.
📦 Boxing Day is linked to the tradition of giving to others — from “Christmas boxes” for workers to charity collection boxes.

📌 Holiday closure: Westcountry SEN is now closed and will reopen on 5th January. We’ll respond to messages when we’re back.

🕯 Halloween dates back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, marking the end of harvest season.
🎃 The tradition of carving pumpkins began with turnips in Ireland before pumpkins became popular in America.
🍭 Children have been “trick or treating” in the UK since the 1950s — originally it was known as guising!
🦇 The word “witch” comes from the Old English wicce, meaning “wise woman.”
