Another interesting visit to London Design week at Chelsea Harbour! I was specifically looking for William Morris and Arts and Crafts inspiration for a project and was happy to find a large Sanderson showroom which has the Morris collections. There have also been changes to the building now which means that access to all the showrooms is undercover!

A few examples of some students work including a Mood board with a floor plan and two elevations. As you can see, elevations show a different view of the room to a floor plan so it's really necessary to do both. They have been exploring the use of Moroccan style as a reference point to the renovation of an open plan living space! It's important when presenting ideas to a client that you use as many visuals as possible in the form of technical drawings and photos, to help them visualise what you're proposing and will also enable them to see if you have answered the brief and included all their requirements.

It's time to register for design London 2022. Registration is free and it is a great opportunity to see collections from sought after brands and where there will also be talks by industry professionals. Brands include Artemide and HAY. There is always a lot going on and an important event in the design calendar!!!

For anyone who is interested in what's new in fabrics and interior styling, head down to Chelsea Harbour in London for this event. Every spring all the showrooms open to show new seasons fabrics and interior accessories.If you are looking to source items for a specific project, there are lots of companies here under one roof?! Well three glazed domes actually !!

Students at work identifying textures in the interior. The task is to find a range of textures that best identify the range of finishes that can be used in a room scheme. These textural additions are known as finishes because they are the elements that bring a scheme together and as such, are extremely important.

As you would expect the trends influencing Interior design for 2022 have been governed by issues such as climate change and home working due to the pandemic. I thought I would share some of the ideas being suggested by country living, Pinterest and The Nordroom.
HOMEWORKING- A move towards a more dedicated space in the home or slotting a work station in where you can fit one !
SUSTAINABILITY-In terms of the materials we use and brands we buy.
Up cycling- Re using and repurposing items bought, found or already owned.
BRINGING NATURE INDOORS- There has been a growing trend towards having house plants.
WALLCOVERINGS- Used in unexpected ways for instance on ceilings and integrated in to furniture.
BIOPHILIC DESIGN Describes the human desire to connect with nature.
USE OF NATURAL MATERIALS- As opposed to man made.
ORGANIC AND ROUNDED SHAPES-From kitchen islands to sofas.
70'S RETRO- But using warm earthy tones.
STATEMENT LAMPS- Interesting and sculptural forms, not to just illuminate a room.
COTTAGECORE-A new term used to describe a cosy, homely and warm space.

An inspiring visit to Roche court in Wiltshire recently to look at the new designers house. Lots of ideas for a streamlined approach to architecture and interiors. I also love the hidden window shutters!

London design festival is starting next week. Head over to Chelsea Design centre for inspirational new fabrics, furnishings and lighting.

Two examples of "Rendering" drawings. The addition of colour on to drawings helps to demonstrate how the colours and finishes you have chosen will appear and look in the overall scheme. The first example is a rendered floor plan and the second is an exercise where students select a group of samples and then illustrate how they will appear in the interior.
