Come and Learn an Artform of Jewellery Making. Catered for All ages and Skills. This is an age-old technique where we use a special type of Sand also known as Delft Clay. The idea is to create a replica of an object in metal by imprinting it into the sand and then pour molten metal into the shape that’s left behind. (If I am losing you already in my explanation all will be explained during the class, so don’t panic!)
The class is broken into three parts:
~   Mould Making
~  Casting
~   Soldering/Polishing “

*** Vacancy at Tokes Farm Education ***

We are looking for help on our educational smallholding just outside of Shafesbury, Dorset in the Cranborne Chase ANOB. We are passionate about bringing children and young people back on to the land, so are finding as many ways as possible to do this. We have chickens, goats, cows and sheep and we have a no-dig market garden which is about a quarter of an acre in size. We run various different education programs and the animals and vegetables are the learning resources. We are looking for someone to help us upkeep all of this, but the main focus will be the market garden. Previous experience in growing/gardening, with animals, or practical skills would be useful, but not essential. Our website is www.tokesfarm.org
We have accommodation on site which is a refurbed static with a wood burner, fully fitted kitchen, shower, loo and electricity. This is in an idyllic spot in the market garden, looking out onto woods and fields. We would be offering this space with no bills, food from the garden and on-site organic refill shop in exchange for approximately 25 hrs a week, depending on experience and skills. Depending on the person, they may be working alongside students so will need to be DBS checked if that is the case.
Tokes Farm is a family run organic farm that Rob and Annie brough 12 yrs ago. Lily (seen above ☝️)their daughter runs the education and her partner Fred (also seen above ☝️) heads up the garden. They have an 18 month old son and two dogs and also live at the farm. The School house, the farm’s classroom, has other community events such as evening yoga classes and weekend workshops. This space may provide paid work opportunities for the person that comes to help.
Dogs must be trained around livestock. Any other info get in touch with Lily on [email protected]

Former teacher Lily McClelland has transformed how children learn about farming and the countryside with her outdoor education sessions at Semley's Tokes Farm. With DEFRA funding, Lily offers free school visits for the first 25 schools, emphasising hands-on experiences in nature, farming, and understanding food systems. This initiative aims to reconnect youth with the environment and agricultural practices.

From 12th February, Lily will host an engaging children's half-term workshop focusing on fire, as we'll hear in our report.

"It's essential that children get the opportunity to work with fire. During this session, we will learn about ancient ways people discovered and made fire, such as flintstone, friction, and wood on wood. Once we've successfully lit our fires, we will make our charcoal on Monday, followed by casting things in pewter on Tuesday - a nice material to work with as it's easy to melt down. Finally, on Wednesday, we'll be cooking over the fire."

Lily explains that Tokes Farm is expanding and presents a unique opportunity: offering free accommodation and food in exchange for work at the farm. This offer has garnered international interest. Visit tokesfarm.org for more or email
