Wrotham School

Wrotham School High Expectations, Challenge and Opportunity Welcome to Wrotham School. High expectations, challenge and opportunity are central to our school.

As soon as you enter the school you will sense the strong ethos that underlines everything we do. The achievement of our students speaks for itself and highlights the high quality teaching and support that our students receive every day. Wrotham is a popular co-educational day school for pupils aged 11-18 with a current roll of 770. There were 452 applications for 130 Year 7 places in September 20

14. We have been heavily oversubscribed for the past ten years. We have a growing sixth form which now benefits from a fantastic new Sixth Form Resource Centre as part of our new building which opened in February 2013. High Expectations, Challenge and Opportunity

We have the highest expectations of all our students and they deliver! In 2014 66% of year 11 achieved 5 or more A*- C GCSE grades including English and mathematics and 96% achieved 5 or more A*- C GCSE grades in any discipline. Wrotham Sixth Form students achieved the best ever set of A2 and vocational equivalent results, with 51% of grades being at A*-B. We are immensely proud of what our students have achieved and their performance bucks the national trend. Students at Wrotham make excellent progress placing the school consistently in the top 5% for this measure and we have the third highest value added of all schools in Kent. We have a well-deserved reputation as a school that challenges students to reach their potential in a friendly, caring and well-disciplined environment. Care, guidance and support for students is outstanding and contributes strongly to the success of our students. We have excellent staff – professional, lively and supportive, and the Leadership Team is committed to consultation and an open style of management. The average class size is 26. All staff are encouraged to participate in continuing professional development and there is a massive commitment to a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students. The school has a clear focus on teaching and learning. The most recent full OfSTED (November 2009) has judged overall Achievement and Standards as Good with 12 separate outstanding judgements. It has also recognised the capacity to make further improvements in attainment as outstanding. Leadership and management was judged as Outstanding and as a team we are dedicated to ensuring that all our students thrive at Wrotham School. Learning Environment

In September 2011 our new state of the art 3G all weather pitch was completed and is proving to be a real asset to the school and local community. A new £3 million building opened in February 2013 which includes eleven new classrooms and an impressive sixth form resource centre. This summer we completed a total refurbishment of our SEND support building and further updated our fast growing ICT network. We are incredibly proud of our students and of our school. The Excellence Pathway at Wrotham School

- Stretching our strongest students, subject by subject

At Wrotham, we know that high performance doesn’t always look the same. We’ve never believed in so-called “grammar streams” as a gimmick. Instead, we invest in what works: quality teaching, deep subject knowledge, and recognising talent wherever it appears.

We’ve always believed that great teaching in a truly comprehensive setting is what helps students thrive.

That’s why, from 2026, we’re introducing the Excellence Pathway — a way to make sure our highest-performing students in each subject get the pace, challenge, and support they need to reach their full potential.

What will this look like:

• In every subject, there will be a class of around 30 students following an accelerated pathway to stretch them further.

• Students will be selected by subject leaders based on performance — if they’re in the top 15% in that subject, they’ll be offered a place.

• It’s not one-size-fits-all: a student might be in the pathway for English, but not for Maths — it’s all about individual strengths.

• The content is the same, but it’s taught with greater depth and adjusted pace, helping students aim for the top grades at GCSE and A level.

• And importantly — it’s not fixed. Students can move in as they grow, and we’ll be keeping an eye on potential, not just early results.

We’re really proud to offer this opportunity — not as a headline or a hollow promise, but as a real, thoughtful way to support students who are ready for more, in the subjects they love most.
