It’s been the annual residency for the FAPD member artists this week. The is transformed into studio spaces and the groups are invited in to use it to develop their practice in a collegiate art school environment.
The highlight of the week is the ‘Skill Share” day, convened by . In the morning demonstrated the Egg Tempera technique and then in the afternoon we were privileged to have the great painter visit us to talk about his practice. Thanks to Joe for his generosity in sharing his painting process and methods with us, it was an absolutely compelling afternoon.

Good afternoon everyone.
We spend most of the year based at the salubrious surroundings of which is a great gallery with great shows, but once a year we are unleashed on the London art world for a marathon gallery tour. We were particularly lucky yesterday to receive a tremendously generous welcome from and an excellent impromptu artist’s talk from seen here in image 3 in front of his great painting. Thank you Robbie & Benito!

Last year, the trend in the galleries seemed to be a kind of dreamy surrealism, this year the dialogue was with abstraction. There’s lots of good stuff to see, for me the highlight was Joan Snyder (image 8-9) at Ropac. What do you think?

‘Sometimes, Always, Never’ is open again today 10-5 .
You may be wondering what the title actually means… I first encountered the phrase ‘sometimes, always, never’ as a mnemonic for the correct way to button a jacket (Sometimes=top button,
Always=middle button, Never=bottom button). I like how this sequence of words is poised between several possible interpretations: On the
one hand it functions as a banal piece of fashion advice, yet on the other, when taken out of context, it reads like an existential statement. I thought this jarring contrast between shallow and deep would offer the member artists a variety of ways to interpret the ‘meaning’ of the title.
