Bujinkan Sevenoaks Dojo
A school of Nine traditional Japanese Martial Arts, suitable for men and women, which has many applications for today's modern times.
The Bujinkan Sevenoaks Dojo was established to help transmit the teachings of traditional Japanese martial arts in the North West Kent area, as contained within the Bujinkan Dojo and taught by our Soke (Grandmaster) Masaaki Hatsumi.
We started our new training year this month with the awarding of Shodan (1st degree black belt) to one of our students. The recipient has trained consistently over the last three years, overcoming physical non-training injuries and also a hip replacement surgery.
If you would like to join our class, we accept new students throughout the year, no previous martial arts experience is nessecary, just an interesting in learning and trying something new.
Our classes are small and friendly, so you will have plenty of support, encouragement and guidance from the chief instructor and the senior students at the club.

Congratulations to one of my senior students on his recent promotion to 8th Dan.
Some footage from Hatsumi Sensei's birthday party.
Due to a work commitment, there will be no class this Thursday 3rd August.
Training as normal from next Thursday, 10th August.
For last Thursday's class, we commenced with our detailed study of Zempo Ukemi & Koho Kaiten (forwards & backwards rolling), again breaking the rolling down to its component parts and doing it slowly.
We then looked at Tai-Sabaki against a downwards cut, which led into a study of the style of Muto Dori Soke was teaching/practising before he retired.
We then looked at the first two techniques from the Kihon Happo, again breaking the movement down into the key areas, in order to better understand the movement, angling and positioning for the Shuto.
New starters are always welcome, you don't need any prior experience.

For last Thursday's class we commenced with Soku Ho Kaiten (sideways rolling), Zenpo Kaiten (forwards rolling) and Jun Nagre (rear diagonal roll), but taking them back to their most basic form and learning to use the surrender of balance and body movement to initiate the roll, instead of speed and strength.
We then worked through the San Shin no Kata and finished with Tsuki Iri and Koshi Ori form the Kukishinden Ryu Hanbo techniques.
Nice to see our newer students showing great progress in their rolling and taijutsu.
Thursday 15th December will be our last class for 2022.
We resume training on the 5th January 2023.

It's important.
Kihon 基本
When the visiting instructor has to return to Kihon because no one practices enough Kihon, it’s a message very loud and clear to everyone. What are instructors teaching their students in their own dojo? It starts with your Kamae 構. Nagato sensei said he used to sweat by just standing in the mirror trying to perfect his Kamae. Noguichi Sensei commenced Ten Chi Jin Ryaku no Maki 天地人略の巻 classes some years ago at Honbu because of the lack of Kihon seen in visiting students. As Shidoshi, this is our responsibility in our own countries. This is our job. This is what they are expecting of us. If you don’t have good enough Kihon, your Henka 変化 will be weak and have no substance or bone. Henka is Kihon. It’s obvious who understands this and who doesn’t in mind, body and spirit 心技体.
Respect your Sensei and the art you are practicing to master. Just 道 it.
