On Wednesday, Cameron class visited St Peter & St Paul's church as part of their history topic. They met Reverend Caz and some volunteers from the church who taught them about the history of the church. They learnt about when it was first built in Anglo-Saxon times, then re-built by the Normans. They saw artefacts from Verney Lovett Cameron whose father was a vicar of the church in the 1800s. They learnt about the history and significance of the stained glass windows. They also learnt that most of these windows were blown out by a bomb dropped on the village during WW2.

On Monday 13th April, the whole school took part in the TCS London Marathon for Schools. This event could be completed in many different ways and we decided to complete our distance by going for a walk around Shoreham and looking at and thinking about nature as we walked. The walk went really well and everyone completed it. It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed being outside in the fresh air. They were even asking to do it again the next day.
Exercise is a fantastic way to support our physical and mental health. It gets our bodies moving, relieves tension and can help us regulate our breathing. Connecting with nature has been proven time and time again to work wonders for our wellbeing. At school, nature connections can help boost students’ moods, improve focus and help them to feel less stressed and anxious. So, by exercising out in nature we can get the benefits of moving our bodies, as well as all the benefits from connecting with our incredible natural world.

On Monday 27th April, a team of 10 from Years 3-6, took part in the District Swimming Gala at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre. There were 16 schools taking part with about 180 pupils competing. It was again a great opportunity for them to compete despite the school groupings being very different this year, with us competing against medium sized schools with their own swimming pools! Despite some initial nerves and the heat, they showed some great skills and speed in the different events. A big well done to all the Year 3’s and 4’s who stepped up and swam against Year 5 and 6 pupils and the Year 5’s who swam against Year 6’s. Well done Team Shoreham!

On Thursday 7th May, a team of 5 pupils, from Year 5 and 6, took part in a Lacrosse Tournament at Sevenoaks School. Pop Lacrosse is a great sport as there is no off-side so play is continuous. Our team competed against some very tall competition from other schools but played with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Over two hours the team played showed some amazing catching, throwing and attacking skills, scored some amazing goals and supported one another. Despite playing lots of bigger schools, they lost just the final match, in the final, of the 5 matches they played, winning all the others. They came second overall and as a result go through to the South-East Regional Lacrosse Final!! An amazing achievement for the second year running. Well done Team Shoreham.

On Monday 27th April, a Year 3 and 4 team of 6 children, took part in a Mini-Red Tennis Tournament at Hollybush, Tennis Academy. They went into the competition with not much experience at playing competitive tennis, but having learnt some skills in PE lessons and some of the children at the lunchtime tennis club, but they all showed amazing determination and really developed their skills over the 2 ½ hours that the competition ran for. They became more accurate with their returns and serves and had some really good rallies with their opponents. Our teams were against some tough competition again, with many teams from other schools made up from pupils who attend tennis academy lessons outside school, but they tried really hard especially against some exceptionally skilled pupils from other schools! It was clear to the spectators how much their skills and understanding of the game developed whilst they were playing. Well done Team Shoreham!

Glee Club gave a stunning performance of the songs 'Feeling Good' and 'New Beginning ' at the Choir Collaboration event at Sevenoaks School. The event, which included three other local schools who also gave individual performances, involved a warm up workshop with music staff from Sevenoaks School and finished with a joint performance of a comedic song about Mozart called 'A La Cart'.
Glee Club performed their pieces with enthusiasm, and the timbre of their voices and the use of dynamics were praised. It was such a wonderful opportunity for them to perform on a works class stage in front of an audience and we are extremely proud of them.
