Today we sorted words according to their spelling rule.

Pink - multi syllable word ending in /ik/ sound then we spell with IC.

Blue - FLOSS rule - 1 syllable word + 1 short vowel sound + immediately followed and ending in F, L, S, Z then we double the final consonant.

Turquoise- 1 syllable word + 1 short vowel sound immediately followed by /ch/ then we use TCH, otherwise we use CH.

Here we are building words. We started with the base word SNAP, then added the prefix UN and the suffix ED. We used our method to see if it needed a double P. Count from the vowel in SNAP to the end of the word and say "1, 2 then double I do". If it didn't need to be doubled we would say, "1, 2, 3 then no doubling for me!"

Thank you to the mother of one of my 12 year old students for her lovely feedback.

"Lisa has been tutoring our son for over 6 months and is amazing. His English is much improved and he's more confident. During his last assessments his grades for English were much better than before. The lessons are fun with games and it's part of his Tuesday routine."

This student always has a teddy bear to help in our lessons! Here were were taking about Care-bear being a compound word and how a plural word can sound like it is ending in a /s/ or /z/ sound.
