This was one client’s check-in during her three weeks in Stress Release. At the start, she wanted to be able to rest effectively. She described fatigue, difficulty switching off, and only noticing her body’s signals once symptoms became severe.

With a small, personalised routine and regular check-ins, she began noticing calmer moments, her shoulders dropping and changes in her breathing. She also shared an everyday win: reading for hours.

Pain and fatigue were still present, and some days were harder than others. Alongside that, she was developing a clearer understanding of her body and what felt helpful.

Saved another nervous system exercise… and now your “calming routine” has a to-do list of its own? I can see how that happens. When you’re uncomfortable and want some relief, it makes sense to keep looking for something that helps.

But ten different techniques can leave you wondering which ones suit you, which feel like too much, and whether you need to try even harder.

In my work, we start with how your body is responding and choose practices around that. The two techniques and five minutes in this video illustrate a simpler, personalised approach. What suits you may look different.

If you’ve been collecting exercises but still don’t know where to start, join me in my Body Release Workshop. I’ll guide you through the first step: recognising your nervous system state and exploring practices with safety first.

Most people overcomplicate nervous-system regulation. They collect dozens of techniques, try each one once and then wonder which one was helping.

If I wanted to help my nervous system feel calmer over the next seven days, I’d simplify it right down: Choose one gentle practice—like this self-havening technique—and repeat it consistently.

The slow, soothing touch provides your body with sensory signals of safety. You don’t need to force yourself to relax or make anything happen. Simply notice how your body feels before, during and after the practice.

Try it for a few minutes once or twice a day for the next seven days. Simple and consistent will usually take you much further than complicated and occasional.

Freeze doesn’t always look like being visibly frozen. Sometimes it looks like going blank, losing awareness of your body, feeling suddenly exhausted or discovering that you’ve pushed far beyond your capacity without realising it.

For this client, overwhelm had become so intense that her body would shut down and she often couldn’t recognise the warning signs before it happened.

One of our first steps was helping her reconnect with the sensations in her body through a simple practice called **Felt Sense**.

Instead of analysing why she felt a certain way, she began noticing:

🌀 What sensations can I feel right now?
🌀 Can I name one without judging it?
🌀 What might my body need in this moment?

This helped her begin recognising overwhelm earlier, while there was still time to respond differently.

Eight weeks later, she had experienced no further episodes. That was her individual experience, not a promise of the same outcome for everyone but it shows why body awareness can be such an important first step.

If you’d like to understand freeze and shutdown, and learn the first steps for reconnecting safely with your body, join my ** next Body Release Workshop**.

Your chronic tension and pain shows up because your body doesn’t feel safe yet, so it holds onto tension, to protection and to pain.

This is one of the simplest ways to start changing that 👇

Hand on your heart.
Slow your breath.
Lengthen your exhale.

You’re not forcing your body to relax… you’re showing it there’s nothing to fight right now.

When your body feels safe, it starts to let go.

If your body’s been stuck in pain cycles for years, it’s not because you’ve failed. It’s because no one showed your nervous system how to feel safe.
