📍 Shooters Hill Sixth Form College

Last week, The Skills Network team headed to London to meet with the team at Shooters Hill Sixth Form College 🤝

With over 2,000 students, the college is rolling out our enrichment resources for its sports academy learners in 2026/27, supporting students across football, volleyball, swimming, basketball, tennis and boxing.

We also discussed plans to bring the Good for Me Good for FE (G4ME) Changemaker Programme to the wider student population, supporting the college’s Social Action Month in January 2027. 💙

🌟 Feedback Friday: Learning That Makes a Difference

There’s nothing better than hearing how our courses genuinely support learners - not just to complete a qualification, but to grow in confidence along the way.

This week’s standout feedback comes from a learner who described their journey as “the best learning experience I’ve had.”

They shared how having support when stuck, time to breathe, and consistent tutor feedback helped them move from feeling challenged to making real progress - and ultimately enjoying the learning more than expected.

📍 Building skills partnerships across the North West

Last week, our team spent time across the North West meeting with colleges, councils and local partners to explore how flexible skills provision can support learners, residents, employers and communities.

We started at Lancaster & Morecambe College where we discussed opportunities to build on our existing adult learning provision, alongside our 16–19 offer, Learner Find service and developing blended learning provision.

We then headed to Blackpool Council to explore how our short courses could support local priorities including employability, upskilling, homelessness and opportunities for young people not in education, employment or training.

The week continued with Cheshire East Council where we looked at how our short courses and blended learning approach could support residents, workforce development and closer collaboration between councils, colleges and learners.

What stood out across all three conversations was the value of joined-up, flexible skills provision that can respond to the needs of different communities and organisations.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with us and share their priorities. We’re looking forward to continuing these conversations and exploring what we can achieve together. 🤝

From meaningful conversations on wellbeing and mental health to celebrating new opportunities for adult learners, it was a fantastic week supporting our partners Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) across two key events in Staffordshire 🎓✨

We joined NSCG, an Ofsted Outstanding college group, at the Creative Learning Partnership Trust Conference 2026, where over 500 staff and senior leaders came together to explore key themes including social issues, mental health awareness and wellbeing.

We also celebrated the launch of NSCG in Town, Stafford's new Adult Learning Hub, helping bring skills, qualifications and career development opportunities closer to local communities.

It's brilliant to see continued investment in education, lifelong learning and learner success across the region.

Building strong partnerships is at the heart of what we do.

Recently, our team visited Activate CES in Kirkby and met with CEO Jane Young to learn more about the incredible support they provide for learners with SEND.

Supporting over 100 learners, Activate CES offers a highly personalised approach to education, complemented by impressive facilities including sensory activity rooms, hydrotherapy and a working farm, creating engaging opportunities for learners to develop skills and confidence.

We are proud to support Activate CES through our short course provision and were delighted to discuss opportunities to further develop our partnership and expand learning opportunities for their learners.

Good luck to everyone collecting their results, and a huge well done to everyone who received their A-level results last week.

Whatever tomorrow brings, there are plenty of opportunities and different routes ahead. If you get the grades you hoped for, congratulations! If things don’t quite go to plan, that’s okay too.

It's National Relaxation Day, and in a world that often encourages us to keep going, today is a good reminder that taking time to pause is important too.
