This is one of our mummy’s she has battled just about everything cancer has thrown at her. For it to have one final go at her 🥹 She is 29 and has been given 3 months to live it has now spread to her brain and liver, she will be leaving her 4 beautiful babies behind the youngest just 5 years old. I know things are tough for everyone but if you can spare just a little bit it all helps. Let try and make these 3 months the best she can have 🥰

Why are playground games so important to early development?

Playground games, including circle games like Farmers in his Den, Simon Says, What’s the Time Mr Wolf and Traffic Lights can all help to support the development of your child's language and communication skills, as well as their emotional development.

These type of games provide opportunities to engage in conversation with lots of comments and repetition, building confidence and familiarity with vocabulary.

There is also the opportunity for your child to learn to listen and pay attention – key skills needed for successful communication.

Plus, these games build social skills, leadership, self-awareness and self-regulation as children not only take part in play, but also learn to lead the play.

𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲

In our busy lives, it can sometimes be difficult to find the time to stop and really listen to our youngest children - but when we do we get a unique and wonderful insight into their world: what matters to them, how they are feeling and their views and opinions.

This also helps us to support them building their confidence in expressing themselves and feeling safe to do so.

Are there a few minutes each day you could find to switch the television off, put the phone on silent and make your little one the focus of your attention, listening to and valuing their thoughts and choices?

Research has shown that there are nine minutes during the day that have the greatest impact on a child in terms of us listening and responding to them:

❤️ The first three minutes right after they wake up in the morning

❤️ The three minutes after they come home from nursery, pre-school, their childminding setting or school

❤️ The last three minutes of the day before they go to bed at night.

Why is giving young children choices so important?

Giving children choices helps them to feel listened to. Listening to our little ones isn't just about hearing what they say, it is also about paying attention to their body language, play and behaviour and trying to make sense of what they are trying to tell us.

Having choices such as: "Would you like to wear the yellow t-shirt or the green one?", "Can you reach or do you need some help?" or "Would you like some apple, carrot or banana for your snack?" gives a clear message to children that you value their input and are listening to them.

Children like to be involved in decision-making and as this is something they'll have to do throughout their life, it is good to start early!

𝟭𝟬-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝘂𝗽 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀

Did you know it is recommended that toddlers aged one to two, as well as pre-schools aged three to four should be physically active for at least three hours a day?

Physical activity is really important for the healthy growth and development of young children from babies and beyond – not just for growing bones and muscles, but also for their mental and emotional well-being too. So how can get your little one moving?

The NHS Healthier Families website has guidance and ideas for the type of activities that can help to get your little ones moving including tummy time, playing ball games, running and jumping and climbing.

We particularly like the 10-minute shake-up games inspired by some of their favourite Disney characters, including the Frozen sisters, Buzz Lightyear and the magical Madrigals from Encanto!
