Storm Debi is bringing very strong and disruptive winds to parts of our Cumberland patch today, with the Met Office giving a Yellow and Amber warning. Gusts of up to 75mph could be reached along coastal areas around midday today.

What to expect:
• Flying debris is likely
• Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs is likely
• Longer journey times and possible cancellations to rail/bus services
• Roads and bridges could be affected and there is an increased chance of standing water on the roads.
• Footpaths could be very slippy underfoot due to leaves so please take extra care
• There is a good chance that power cuts may occur. You can report a power cut by dialling 105, you can also report a power cut online and check for the latest updates www.enwl.co.uk/powercuts
• Large waves and beach material could be thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties

We are advising motorists to take extra care on the county's roads tomorrow after the Met Office issued a Yellow weather warning for wind.

The Yellow warning is currently valid from 4am to 6pm tomorrow (13 November) due to Storm Debi.

Police are advising motorists to be prepared for the potential for strong and disruptive winds across Cumbria and the challenges that this may cause on the county’s road network.

Advice for road users includes:

Please plan ahead for journeys tomorrow, allowing for extra time.

Take extra care and, where possible, avoid exposed areas of the county where the wind could cause the most disruption.

Drive slowly and with extra care and attention.

Please give vulnerable road users including cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians more room than usual.

Officers are also asking drivers of high-sided vehicles to take particular care and to plan routes accordingly to the conditions.

The conditions may be particularly impactive during the rush-hour period in the morning, please take extra care and drive to the conditions.

Storm Agnes!

Cumbria is expected to be in the path of Storm Agnes tomorrow (Wednesday 27 September) from around 12pm until Thursday 28 September (approximately 7am).

Wind gusts could be as high as 60-75 mph.

It is incredibly important that you be prepared and stay safe.
• We urge you to check the weather and your route before making a journey – please only travel if absolutely necessary, and allow extra time for your journey- please check traffic here: https://bit.ly/CumbriaTraffic
• Secure garden furniture/trampolines - anything that could cause damage
• Park vehicles in a garage if available; otherwise keep them clear of buildings, trees, walls and fences
• Please stay away from the fells (and high/coastal roads) to keep you and the mountain rescue volunteers safe.
• Please also refrain from water sports activities as well.
• Check your torch batteries, radio, non-cooking food, chargers, etc. - you can find more information here:
• If it is safe to do so, please check on neighbours and older relatives too to make sure they're OK.
• Do not touch any telephone or electrical cables that may have blown down
