Been a little while since I last posted. It's been lovely to get to know all my new students for this year and the teaching of the exam technique is well underway! Have also had some wonderful feedback from some of my students on the memorisation course I run so that was really great to hear ๐
It is that time of year though, mock exams! Lots of my students are navigating them at the moment so I thought I'd waffle about them a bit. It can be very disheartening to get a bad mock grade at this time of the year, it can cause a lot of anxiety and stress and results in worrying you about what you'll get in the real exam.
Now this isn't the case for all schools and colleges, but in my experience a lot of this stress is by design. The idea is that if the system can scare you with a difficult exam paper it will force you all to work much harder for the rest of the year. This doesn't sit well with me because a) scaring students teaches them bad reasons for learning something and b) it's not a good way to help students to know exactly what they're struggling with.
Here's where I might be able to help. Mock papers are quite good for letting me know exactly where a student is losing marks because of exam technique - I often find my students breathe a sigh of relief when I tell them there's nothing wrong with their science knowledge, it's their exam technique! If you'd like me to analyse your paper and give you my feedback on what I recommend you do to improve, please do get in touch! Provided I'm not swamped with 40 or so papers I'll happily do this analysis for you for free ๐
And as always if you would like to book a lesson or two or have a chat to see if I can help, please do get in touch ๐
(Also some virtual office hours should be coming soon once I've worked out how to get my streaming set up configured!)
