What a wonderful start to the school year for our Nursery and Reception class. The children have loved exploring their new classroom and making friends with their new class family. They have been learning our school routines and learning through playing in their new environment. We are so proud of our new starters for making such a positive start to their life at St Joseph’s; we are so excited to watch as they grow. 📚🖍️

As they start their journey in Year 6, the children of St. Anthony have thought about how they would like their classroom to look and feel this year. We had some fantastic ideas including positive, respectful, resilient and caring - some great qualities to have!

British Values Day at St Joseph’s was wonderful. The children in St Francis of Assisi learnt all about ‘Democracy’ and explored how each of us have the right to a say. The children researched democracy in our country and how it has changed over time.

They then created posters to promote their options for a whole school vote on what they would like as a treat to celebrate the end of the year. Each child had a vote and the majority vote was a trip to the park. Each class visited the park and they all had so much fun🇬🇧☀️

What a lovely way to end the school year! Yesterday, as part of British Values day, the children voted for a treat to celebrate the end of the year as this linked to their learning on Democracy and the Catholic Social Teaching of subsidiarity. The final vote was for a park visit. Each class visited our local park and St Nicholas had the best time. They loved climbing, exploring and zooming down the zip line. There was so much fun and laughter; a fantastic decision made by our children! ⛅️🛝

🇬🇧 British Values Day at St Joseph’s was wonderful. The children in St Nicholas learnt all about ‘Individual Liberty’ and explored how each of us have the right to our own choices and preferences. The children thought carefully about one of the biggest choices that they have to make when they grow up…what job they would want to do! They then created rosettes to celebrate their own choices and that they have individual liberty which allows them to choose who and what they want to be. It was fantastic seeing our future generation share their dream jobs (especially as they get ready to transition up the school). The children presented their rosettes to the other children in assembly to teach them all about this British value.

To celebrate British Values Day, the children had fish and chips, ate a delicious scone (topped with whipped cream and jam), created their own Union Jack flag and sang the national anthem. We thought carefully about how British Values tie into our Catholic Social Teaching principles and how they are closely linked to messages from our Catholic Life and Mission. What a wonderful day of learning and celebration. 🇬🇧
