Laugh and Learn Childminding - Scunthorpe

A home from home environment to help your children grow and Learn. Hi all, my name is Stacey. I live with my husband Mark.

I have 2 sons, one aged 16 years old and one aged 5 years old and a 2 year old daughter. I have worked with children most of my adult life. I started out volunteering while I completed my Level 2 Children’s care, learning and development back in 2007. I loved working with children from a young age. I continued to develop my skills and knowledge and I have now got a Level 4 childcare award in Early

A windy but lovely visit this morning to Normanby Hall. We did the Easter egg hunt and saw the deer close up to the fence. Everyone also enjoyed feeding the ducks and a 🚜 ride

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke don’t just appear out of the blue. There are signs of heat stress, which, if left untreated, can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The initial signs of heat stress include:
• Heat rash that doesn’t go away when the skin is cooled, called “prickly heat”. This rash looks like a red cluster of pimples or small blisters on or around the
• Heat cramps happen as muscles and bodily systems deplete their supply of electrolytes, particularly salt and water, and as a reaction to lower blood volumes. These cramps usually occur in the ABDOMEN – LEGS – ARMS and are accompanied by MOODINESS and FUSSINESS. If a baby, toddler or young child starts showing signs of crankiness or fussiness this can be an early indication of heat stress.
• Watch for unusual erratic and repetitive behaviors, such as repeatedly standing and sitting.

If the above symptoms worsen and start to include:
• Intense thirst
• Dizziness or fainting
• Pale skin
• Rapid but weak heart rate
• Headache
• Nausea and vomiting
• Concentrated p*e & decreased output (yellow/orange)
Then your child is becoming dehydrated and likely has heat exhaustion.

• Remove clothing
• Move to a cool place
• Give cool water with a teaspoon of salt per quart, or sports drink. (Cold water and salt tablets can actually increase cramping symptoms.) (not for babies - give Pedialyte on recommendation of doctor)
• Gently massage child’s muscles
• Elevate feet on a pillow if they will lie down

Rest and rehydration is usually enough, though some children may need more time to recover than others. Hospitalization is rarely needed.
DO call your family doctor.

Starting today is Children's Mental Health Week.

Did you know that 1 in 6 children or young people have a diagnosable mental health problem with anxiety disorders being the most common.

2.8% of under 13s and 5.6% of 13 - 18 year olds have been affected by depression.

Self Care doesn't need to be anything complicated doing something you love regularly can be the time away that is needed.

Some top tips for parents and carers i found when researching children's mental health.

💜 Listen - regularly ask how your children are so they are used to talking about feelings.
💜 Encourage - encourage them to explore things that interest them and be part of a team.
💜 Support - look out for emotions and changes in behaviour and help them work through any difficulties
💜 Get Involved - show an interest in the things that are important to them.
💜 Stick to rountines - positive routines build structure and help with a good nights sleep 😴

Are you worried about your little one choking on solid food?

Young children are still learning to breathe, chew and swallow in the right order.

So it’s all about making food manageable for them. Use our handy guide to take the fear out of finger food

This is something myself and my husband have always done. My 5 year old gets a minimum of 2 books read every night before going to bed. My 1.5 year old still won't sit for stories at bedtime (she is getting better) but we share books all the time in the day 📚📖
