✍️ Writing for pleasure 🐯
This is a really big one for me.
When I plan writing lessons for children, first and foremost there has to be enjoyment.
Just look at some of the fantastic work our Home Ed students have been producing about tigers!
I don't like to bog children down with too much grammar talk while they're trying to write. Of course grammar is important — and we teach it — but constantly stopping children to talk about technical terminology can really stifle creativity and, most importantly, their enjoyment of writing.
Instead, I want children to develop enthusiasm for writing and enjoy the process of creating something they're proud of.
Over the last few lessons we've researched tigers, talked about them, drawn them, designed our pages and gradually built our reports. The end results all look completely different — and that's exactly what I want!
There is absolutely a time for grammar lessons, spelling, punctuation and improving technical accuracy.
But sometimes?
Let them write. Let them create. Let them make something cool. ❤️
