Gone are the days when you sit in a job without improving yourself

If you do that today, you will either be replaced by AI or people who are continually developing themselves

Today's job market is filled with opportunities like Data analysis, project management, program analysis, business analysis etc.

These are needed in all sectors

I can't overemphasise the importance of upskilling, it will keep you relevant in the job market where AI is beginning to do many of the work

To your degree certificate, add skills ๐Ÿ‘Œ

You can do CDP courses using LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, or Google etc.

What is summer without enjoying the feel of a cool beach ๐Ÿคญ

Traveling is not cheap, and not everyone needs to move abroad.

I know social media makes it look easy pictures at the airport, cozy homes abroad, the fresh start, the big move. But what you donโ€™t see is the cost financial, emotional, mental.

Relocating abroad isnโ€™t just about booking a flight. Itโ€™s the visa fees, proof of funds, medicals, school transcripts, police clearance, flight tickets, and sometimes even having to pay rent months in advance. Many people have sold properties, emptied savings, or taken loans just to get to the abroad.

Then you land, and it doesnโ€™t end there.
You need to survive. You need to settle. You might have to redo your career path. You might take jobs you never imagined doing just to keep things going. Youโ€™ll convert every dollar back to your home currency and feel like crying the first few months. Some days, youโ€™ll ask yourself, Who sent me?

Leaving your comfort zone is tough. Youโ€™re leaving family, food, language, culture, and sometimes your entire support system. Youโ€™ll miss birthdays, celebrations, funerals. And when you share your wins online, people think youโ€™ve arrived, but they donโ€™t see the lonely nights or the anxiety of starting all over again.

So no, not everyone must move abroad. And thatโ€™s not a bad thing.

There are people doing so well back home building businesses, creating impact, raising families, and living fulfilled lives. You donโ€™t have to move to prove anything. Going abroad doesnโ€™t automatically equal success.

What matters is doing what works for you.
If youโ€™re called to stay, stay and thrive. If youโ€™re led to go, go with the right plan and expectations. Donโ€™t feel pressured by anyoneโ€™s journey. Godโ€™s timing and purpose for each person is different.

At the end of the day, success is not about the country youโ€™re in itโ€™s about how faithful you are with the opportunities you have where you are.

When you "japa,"it is crucial to ensure that your visa status or legal residence status remains valid at all times.

This is important because any lapses in maintaining a valid visa or residency can have significant consequences for your future in the country you're moving to.

Staying in a country illegally can negatively impact your future applications.

You can get penalties and Deportation Risk

Legal Status is Crucial: If your visa expires or your status becomes invalid, you could be considered an overstayer or illegal immigrant.

This can negatively affect your ability to apply for permanent residency or citizenship.

Countries typically require a consistent, legal stay within their borders for several years before they consider residency or citizenship applications.

If you have gaps in your legal status, it could disqualify you from applying or result in delays.

Maintaining Legal Status for Work and Benefits: A valid visa is also essential for working, accessing healthcare, or other public services.

If you lose your legal status, you may not be able to work, and you may lose access to essential services, making it even more difficult to support yourself while waiting for your residency application to be processed.

Step 1: Choose the Right Referee

Select someone who knows you well and can speak positively about your academic achievements, leadership skills, or character. Good options include:
โœ”๏ธ A professor or lecturer
โœ”๏ธ A mentor or employer
โœ”๏ธ A volunteer supervisor

Step 2: Ask for the Reference Early

Give your referee enough timeโ€”at least 2 to 4 weeksโ€”to write a thoughtful and detailed letter. Avoid last-minute requests, as they may lead to a rushed or weak recommendation.

Step 3: Make a Polite and Professional Request

You can ask in person, via email, or through a formal letter. Be clear about why you need the reference and what the scholarship is about.

Step 4: Provide Necessary Information

To help your referee write a strong letter, provide them with:
โœ… Your CV or rรฉsumรฉ
โœ… Your academic achievements and goals
โœ… Scholarship details and selection criteria
โœ… A deadline and submission process

Step 5: Follow Up Politely

If the deadline is approaching and you havenโ€™t received confirmation, send a gentle reminder.

Step 6: Express Gratitude

Regardless of the outcome, thank your referee for their time and effort. A simple message or a handwritten note can leave a positive impression and keep your relationship strong for future opportunities.

By following these steps, you can secure a strong reference that enhances your scholarship application. If you found this guide helpful, share it with someone who might need it! Good luck!

BEST TOOLS TO PREPARE EFFICIENTLY FOR STUDY OR WORK ABROAD

Imagine this: Youโ€™ve secured admission to a top university or landed a dream job abroad. Youโ€™re excited, your family is proud, and your future looks bright. But then reality hitsโ€”visa applications, documents, financial proof, travel arrangements, and culture shock. Where do you start? How do you stay organized and avoid costly mistakes?

Many Africans dream of studying or working abroad, but the preparation process can be overwhelming. The good news? You donโ€™t have to do it alone! There are powerful tools that can help you stay on track, avoid delays, and make your transition smooth. Letโ€™s explore some of the best ones:

1. Notion โ€“ Your Digital Planner

Ever feel like you have a million things to do and donโ€™t know where to start? Notion is a lifesaver! You can create checklists for visa applications, school requirements, and travel arrangements. It helps you stay organized, so you donโ€™t forget important deadlines.

2. Duolingo โ€“ Learn the Local Language

Moving to a country where English isnโ€™t the main language? Duolingo is a fun and free way to learn basic phrases. Even if your program is in English, knowing a few local words can help you navigate daily life and make new friends.

3. Google Drive โ€“ Store Important Documents

Losing important documents can delay your journey. Save copies of your passport, admission letter, visa, and medical records on Google Drive. This way, you can access them anytime, anywhereโ€”even if you misplace the physical copies.

4. Lemfi โ€“ Send and Receive Money Easily

Banking abroad can be tricky, and international transfers are often expensive. Lemfi offers fast and affordable money transfers, helping you manage tuition fees, living expenses, or sending money home without crazy bank charges.

5. LinkedIn โ€“ Build Professional Networks

If you're moving abroad for work or even studies, networking is key. A well-optimized LinkedIn profile can help you connect with professionals, find mentors, and even land jobs before or after your move.

6. Skyscanner โ€“ Find Cheap Flights

Flights can be expensive, but Skyscanner helps you compare prices and book affordable tickets. It also notifies you when prices drop, so you can save money on travel.

7. Google Maps โ€“ Never Get Lost

New country, new streets, and unfamiliar places? Google Maps will be your best friend. Whether you need to find your school, workplace, or the nearest grocery store, this app ensures you never feel lost.

Final Thoughts

Preparing for study or work abroad doesnโ€™t have to be stressful. With the right tools, you can stay organized, save money, and make your transition smooth. So, donโ€™t let confusion or last-minute panic ruin your big moveโ€”start using these tools today and prepare like a pro!

Have you used any of these tools before? Which one will you try first? Letโ€™s talk in the comments!
