Gone are the days when you sit in a job without improving yourself

If you do that today, you will either be replaced by AI or people who are continually developing themselves

Today's job market is filled with opportunities like Data analysis, project management, program analysis, business analysis etc.

These are needed in all sectors

I can't overemphasise the importance of upskilling, it will keep you relevant in the job market where AI is beginning to do many of the work

To your degree certificate, add skills 👌

You can do CDP courses using LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, or Google etc.

Traveling is not cheap, and not everyone needs to move abroad.

I know social media makes it look easy pictures at the airport, cozy homes abroad, the fresh start, the big move. But what you don’t see is the cost financial, emotional, mental.

Relocating abroad isn’t just about booking a flight. It’s the visa fees, proof of funds, medicals, school transcripts, police clearance, flight tickets, and sometimes even having to pay rent months in advance. Many people have sold properties, emptied savings, or taken loans just to get to the abroad.

Then you land, and it doesn’t end there.
You need to survive. You need to settle. You might have to redo your career path. You might take jobs you never imagined doing just to keep things going. You’ll convert every dollar back to your home currency and feel like crying the first few months. Some days, you’ll ask yourself, Who sent me?

Leaving your comfort zone is tough. You’re leaving family, food, language, culture, and sometimes your entire support system. You’ll miss birthdays, celebrations, funerals. And when you share your wins online, people think you’ve arrived, but they don’t see the lonely nights or the anxiety of starting all over again.

So no, not everyone must move abroad. And that’s not a bad thing.

There are people doing so well back home building businesses, creating impact, raising families, and living fulfilled lives. You don’t have to move to prove anything. Going abroad doesn’t automatically equal success.

What matters is doing what works for you.
If you’re called to stay, stay and thrive. If you’re led to go, go with the right plan and expectations. Don’t feel pressured by anyone’s journey. God’s timing and purpose for each person is different.

At the end of the day, success is not about the country you’re in it’s about how faithful you are with the opportunities you have where you are.

When you "japa,"it is crucial to ensure that your visa status or legal residence status remains valid at all times.

This is important because any lapses in maintaining a valid visa or residency can have significant consequences for your future in the country you're moving to.

Staying in a country illegally can negatively impact your future applications.

You can get penalties and Deportation Risk

Legal Status is Crucial: If your visa expires or your status becomes invalid, you could be considered an overstayer or illegal immigrant.

This can negatively affect your ability to apply for permanent residency or citizenship.

Countries typically require a consistent, legal stay within their borders for several years before they consider residency or citizenship applications.

If you have gaps in your legal status, it could disqualify you from applying or result in delays.

Maintaining Legal Status for Work and Benefits: A valid visa is also essential for working, accessing healthcare, or other public services.

If you lose your legal status, you may not be able to work, and you may lose access to essential services, making it even more difficult to support yourself while waiting for your residency application to be processed.

Step 1: Choose the Right Referee

Select someone who knows you well and can speak positively about your academic achievements, leadership skills, or character. Good options include:
✔️ A professor or lecturer
✔️ A mentor or employer
✔️ A volunteer supervisor

Step 2: Ask for the Reference Early

Give your referee enough time—at least 2 to 4 weeks—to write a thoughtful and detailed letter. Avoid last-minute requests, as they may lead to a rushed or weak recommendation.

Step 3: Make a Polite and Professional Request

You can ask in person, via email, or through a formal letter. Be clear about why you need the reference and what the scholarship is about.

Step 4: Provide Necessary Information

To help your referee write a strong letter, provide them with:
✅ Your CV or résumé
✅ Your academic achievements and goals
✅ Scholarship details and selection criteria
✅ A deadline and submission process

Step 5: Follow Up Politely

If the deadline is approaching and you haven’t received confirmation, send a gentle reminder.

Step 6: Express Gratitude

Regardless of the outcome, thank your referee for their time and effort. A simple message or a handwritten note can leave a positive impression and keep your relationship strong for future opportunities.

By following these steps, you can secure a strong reference that enhances your scholarship application. If you found this guide helpful, share it with someone who might need it! Good luck!

6. Skyscanner – Find Cheap Flights

Flights can be expensive, but Skyscanner helps you compare prices and book affordable tickets. It also notifies you when prices drop, so you can save money on travel.
