🦇☕ Welcome to the Vampire Café! 🧛‍♀️

The Little Study Spot has had a rather spooky makeover last week! 👻🕸️

But behind the cobwebs, cauldrons and creepy decorations, there was plenty of maths happening! 🤣

My Year 5/6 pupils stepped into the Vampire Café, where they put their maths skills to the test through:

🧛 Long multiplication – tackling calculations with larger numbers.

🩸 Calculating café bills – applying their maths skills to real-life situations.

🕷️ Problem-solving – working out which calculations were needed and explaining their thinking.

I absolutely LOVE creating themed sessions like this because they give children a reason to use the skills they’re learning, rather than simply completing another worksheet.

And sometimes, children don’t even realise just how much maths they’re doing when they’re busy having fun! 🥰

Learning doesn’t always have to look like traditional learning. Sometimes it looks like a Vampire Café, complete with spooky drinks and a few friendly ghosts! 👻💗

🍎 Parents’ evening coming up? Here are 5 questions worth asking! ✏️

Parents’ evenings can go by so quickly! You sit down, have a lovely chat and then remember all the things you wanted to ask on the way home. 🤣

As a primary teacher, here are five questions I’d recommend taking along:

📚 1. What is my child doing particularly well in?
Progress isn’t always about test scores. Find out where they’re growing in confidence too!

✏️ 2. Is there anything they’re finding tricky?
Ask about specific areas of reading, writing or maths rather than just whether they’re doing okay.

🌟 3. Is my child working at age-related expectations?
If not, ask what their next learning steps are and what progress they’re making.

💗 4. How are they getting on socially and emotionally?
Are they happy? Do they have friends? Do they feel comfortable asking for help?

🏡 5. What’s ONE thing we could practise at home?
It doesn’t need to be hours of extra work. Sometimes a little targeted practice makes the biggest difference.

💡 And an extra question for parents of children with SEND:
What support is currently in place, and how do we know whether it’s helping?

Remember, parents’ evening isn’t just about grades or academic achievement. It’s about understanding your child as a whole person. 💗

📚✨ Did you know that tutoring doesn’t always have to happen after school?

When we think of tutoring, we often picture evenings, weekends or squeezing another activity into an already busy week.

But for some children, learning during the school day can be an option too. 💛

At The Little Study Spot, I provide personalised, one-to-one support for children who may:

🌿 Have additional learning needs or an EHCP

🌿 Be working significantly below age-related expectations

🌿 Find the classroom environment overwhelming or struggle to access certain aspects of learning

🌿 Be home educated or currently unable to attend school

🌿 Benefit from a quieter, more individual approach to building confidence in their learning

Sessions are carefully tailored to each child, with a focus on helping them feel comfortable, successful and proud of their progress.

Can tutoring take place in school?

In some circumstances, yes! With the school’s agreement and appropriate arrangements in place, individual tuition may be possible during the school day.

For children learning outside school, daytime sessions may also be an option.

Every child’s circumstances are different, so arrangements would always need to be discussed individually.

Sometimes, a different approach to learning can make all the difference. ✨

🧛‍♀️ THE VAMPIRE CAFÉ IS OPEN… and I have 3 spaces available! 🩸

This Thursday, I’m opening the doors to The Vampire Café again for a special Year 5 & 6 maths session — and I’d love to welcome some new faces!

We’ll be tackling long multiplication, but definitely not with pages and pages of worksheets 🙈 Instead, children will step inside our café, take customer orders, calculate bills, spot mistakes and use their maths to solve real-life problems — with plenty of games along the way!

Small-group tuition can make a BIG difference 💙

Research from the Education Endowment Foundation found that small-group tuition is associated with around 4 additional months of progress, on average, over a year.

And with September approaching, I now have just a handful of spaces available at The Little Study Spot:

📚 Year 2 – 3 spaces available
✏️ Year 5 – 2 spaces available
🎓 Year 6 – 2 spaces available

My groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 4 children, so every child still receives plenty of individual support while benefiting from learning alongside others.

Sessions are engaging, confidence-building and tailored to the needs of the children in the group — with plenty of games and activities alongside focused teaching. 🌟

All other year groups are currently waiting-list only. If your child’s year group isn’t listed, you’re very welcome to message me to register your interest and I’ll contact you when a suitable space becomes available.

💛 This message completely made my day.

When I started The Little Study Spot, I had one goal…

✨ To make children look forward to learning.

I never want tutoring to feel like “extra school.” I want children to leave each session smiling, feeling more confident, and excited to come back.

So receiving a message like this, saying the boys were disappointed I wasn’t coming and even asked if they could have another session that week, is honestly the biggest compliment I could ask for. 🥹

Every child learns differently, which is why my sessions are packed with games, movement, hands-on activities and personalised learning to help build both confidence and academic skills.

Watching children realise that learning can be fun is exactly why I love what I do. 💙

✅ TRUTH: Tutoring isn’t just for children who find learning difficult—it’s for ANY child who could benefit from extra support, a confidence boost, or even a challenge beyond the classroom!

📌 My tutoring groups are completely fluid – meaning your child isn’t restricted to their school year! If they need more challenge, they may suit a Year 6 group even if they’re in Year 5. Likewise, if they need to revisit key skills, they’ll be placed where they feel most comfortable and can progress at their own pace.
