💧We start to learn about colours , shades , tones ,using maths language to complete the process .

🌊This painting was a mix of “ a river to a lake then the waterfall”, then some fish, waves and crocodiles added
💧Why not think about a simple paint palette of colours at home to create colours and patterns. Maybe save old boxes or envelopes touseto paint onto

Moments from The Beach
🐚So yesterday we have have had interest in this space , exploring shells, patterns, space and position.
🐚Today, with the ten frame, a child found a basket of shells , he started to put a shell or stone in one by one to the spaces in the frame
This continued until it wasn’t EMPTY but it was FULL now .
🐚We counted them together and use language like “one more
Thinking about quantity, position, number and counting.
🐚Why not draw a five or ten frame on paper at home and try and let your child add objects in the spaces.
The child showed me 10 fingers when the frame was FULL

There has been so much exploring colour, experimenting - quite sensory in fact,
🎨TODAY
We are moving on with learning, lots of support, guidance, modelling , narrating to develop these skills of making colours .

🎨Our amazing children are all getting really creative and becoming competent artists.
Mixing their powder paint into colours to use on their art work.
We arrange our spaces so there are consistent resource’s available for them to return daily or when they need to-

core book for the end of term is a favourite The Gruffalo I’m sure many of you have come across the Gruffalo but have you seen these signs ? Could you give it a go next time you read this story.?Using makaton signs alongside the story helps children understand and enjoy the book in an inclusive and interactive way. Key signs such as “ mouse”, “fox”, “owl”, “ snake “ and “ Gruffalo” support communication, build vocabulary, and encourage participation. Signing while reading also helps children remember the story, develop language skill, and enables everyone to join in, including those with communication difficulties.

The fox was missing from our cast of characters in the hallway this morning. We took our Bombadil binoculars for a hunt - we found a sh-ee-p... sheep, a r-a-t... rat, a 'd-o-g... dog, but no f-o-x fox. We made a map then followed a route around the volcano, into the castle, around the lake... but still there was no fox!

Phonics is all about hearing the sounds that make up words. What can you spy on your way to Nursery - a 'd-o-g... dog?' a 'c-a-t... cat?' hopefully not a 'sh-ar-k...shark?'

Playing with words and the sounds in words will help your child on their journey to becoming a reader. Watch this video on 'pure sounds' to find out how to say the sounds in words so that they can be blended into a word easily.

A Bombadil Binocular Adventure……

Do you know about our bombadil binoculars!? Firstly what an amazing word….bombadil….say it out loud it feels a fun word to pronounce! 🎤

So bombadil binoculars take us on an exploration of early phonics….speaking, listening and sound awareness and when we feel super confident and start progressing to become school ready we can explore cvc sounds and ‘chopping’ and ‘blending’ together short words by listening to the letter sounds…..

YESTERDAY- We have been focusing on some new vocabulary….one of our words is ‘route’. I decided we needed to go on a bombadil walk around our nursery and decide which ‘route’ we needed to go…..

Armed with a pen, paper and our binoculars we set out making a map of nursery… 🗺️ 🖊️

“What is a route?” I challenged….
“It’s this way and that way” ↔️
“It’s underneath a tree” 🌳
“Route means my favourite place to go” ♥️

I explained the meaning of route that we are consistently repeating to the children
“ route is a path or direction used to get from one place to another” 🗺️

We drew out a map of some of the rooms in nursery and the children decided which route we would take first, drawing on a route line….off we went…..

In the rooms we used the binoculars to see what we could see….
“Over the hill and far away what can I see coming my way” I then chopped down a short word of something we could spot….
“C-a-t” “cat”
“C-o-t” “cot”
The children would listen to the sounds and were so good at hearing the word and spotting that ‘thing’

We travelled between the different rooms looking at what the bombadil binoculars could see….we illustrated our map along the way 🗺️ 🚗

SO TODAY- The next day Mrs Williams went on another bombadil adventure….hiding animals around nursery and chopping and blending the sounds…. 🦆

At home have a go at making your own binoculars with a toilet or kitchen roll tube..can you start to ‘chop down’ some short words of things from around your house….maybe
