🍴IMPORTANT UPDATE: Free School Meals from September 2026

⏰Are you now eligible?
The Department for Education is making major updates to Free School Meals (FSM) starting this September. Changes to eligibility mean many more families will now qualify, while the system for checking existing claims is changing.

💫Here is what you need to know
Expanded Eligibility: From September 2026, ALL families receiving Universal Credit are entitled to free school meals, even if you were previously told you earned too much.

✏️Existing Claims: If your child already receives FSM, you do not need to reapply. Local authorities are automatically reviewing existing claims. You only need to take action if they contact you directly.

✍️New Applicants: You must apply through the Local Authority where your child's school is located (Hull, East Riding, or North Yorkshire).

🌳Applying not only provides free meals but also unlocks vital extra funding (Pupil Premium) to support your child’s education.

💫 NURSERY PARENTS 💫

A REMINDER FOR OUR WORKING PARENTS

This is an important reminder regarding government-funded childcare for the upcoming autumn term starting in September.

If you are claiming funded hours under the working parent scheme you must apply for or reconfirm your 11-digit eligibility code before Thursday 31st August.

If your child is 3 or 4 years old and you are only claiming the universal 15 hours of funding, you do not need a code and do not need to take any action.

⏰Why is this deadline critical?

Strict DfE Regulations:
If your code is not approved or reconfirmed on the GOV.UK Childcare Account portal on or before 31st August, the DfE will not fund your working parent hours for the autumn term.

The 3-Month Reconfirmation Rule:
If you already have a code, you must log in to your account every 3 months to keep it active. Please check your dashboard now to ensure your validity dates cover the upcoming term.

What you need to do now:
Log into your GOV.UK Childcare Account.
Complete your new application or reconfirm your existing details.
Email your 11-digit code (if a new application) to [email protected], along with your National Insurance number and your child’s date of birth, as soon as it is generated.

If you haven't already, we also need to see a copy of your child's birth certificate to go alongside your parental agreement form so please bring this along to the office for Mrs Tite to see.

💫 Any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

We hope you are all having a wonderful summer and we can’t wait to see you soon! ☀️

🪲 We would like to offer a big thank you to our Wild School Site Wydale Hall for another year of Wild Expedidtions. 🐌

🪵 Having endless access to the forestry, dale and surrounding areas - a base where we develop all of our core Wild School Skills - is incredibly beneficial for the outdoor education we provide our children. 🌳

Our children and families created a care package of practical resources to show our appreciation 💫

🍃 Join Our School Family 🍃

We’re looking for a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our wonderful team.

At our school, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to be a warm, welcoming and supportive community where children are encouraged to be curious, confident and kind. We’re looking for someone who shares those values and wants to make a real difference to children’s lives every single day.

This role is much more than supporting learning in the classroom – it’s about building confidence, celebrating achievements, nurturing young people and helping every child feel valued and successful.

If you have a positive outlook, enjoy working with children and would love to be part of a friendly and dedicated team, we’d love to hear from you.

We LOVE to hear that there is a new GCSE that recognises the same education that is central to our school…

What a fantastic opportunity for our children moving onto secondary education.

🌟 A message to our Year 6 children 🌟

When you walk into school on Monday morning, remember that you are so much more than a score or a number. You are creative, curious and full of compassion.

Class 1 admire you for all of your brilliance on the sports field, for the artwork and poems that you share with us in assembly. They look up to you for showing them kindness and reading them stories.

So remember to breath, remember you can do this… and like Miss Donnelly says - remember to read every question, TWICE! 💫

🌳 DUNCOMBE PARK 🦌
This week we have taken every class to Duncombe Park Estate to explore river habitats and forestry wildlife.

🦦 The children have been able to experience first hand the food chains along the River Rye, as well as use their geographical skills to explore the estate with maps and compasses.

🪲 They investigated food supplies for small British mammals, such as the grey squirrel. As well as seeing the changing landscapes of the meandering river.

💫 AN EXCITING NEW CHAPTER FOR BROMPTON 💫

I'm determined to see every child in Scarborough, Whitby and the villages get the best start in life.

So I'm delighted that two schools in our area - St Peter's RC Primary School and Brompton and Sawdon C.P. School - have been included in the second tranche of the Government's Schools-Based Nurseries programme.

School-based nurseries deliver better life-chances for children and better work-choices for parents, families and carers, reducing the need for multiple drop-offs, cutting childcare bills and helping with the cost of living.

New polling shows parents strongly value the convenience of school-based nurseries. Nearly six in ten (59%) say they help prepare for the school transition.
