School Open Tomorrow - Wednesday 7th January 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following an improvement in weather conditions, along with the continued thawing of ice on local roads and across the school site, we are expecting Scalby School to be open as normal tomorrow.

The site has been checked again this afternoon and will be gritted and reviewed early tomorrow morning to ensure it remains safe for students and staff. At this stage, we expect school transport to operate as normal. Should any issues be reported by transport providers, we will inform parents as soon as possible.

Please continue to take care when travelling and allow extra time if needed. Given the conditions, we advise students who walk to wear suitable footwear for their journey to and from school and to bring a change of footwear if required, allowing them to wear their normal school shoes during the school day.

We expect all students to attend as normal. Should conditions change overnight, we will communicate with parents as early as possible.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,
Mr Robertson

Dear Parents and Carers,

School Closure – Tuesday 6 January

Due to the forecasted freezing conditions overnight making roads and footpaths to school dangerous, alongside staffing absence caused by childcare needs as local primary schools have closed throughout the afternoon and evening, we have taken the decision to close Scalby School tomorrow, Tuesday 6 January.

Despite clearing the site and gritting thoroughly today, I have just been down to school this evening and large areas have already begun to freeze. With temperatures set to drop further overnight, the site will be unsafe for students and staff in the morning.

Work will be set online for all year groups. A link will be sent for students tomorrow morning, and work will also be available on the school website by 9.30am for students to access.

We appreciate this decision may cause some inconvenience, but the safety of our students and staff must come first. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Kind regards,
Mr Robertson

Year 11 Prom – A Night to Remember

The Year 11 Prom was the perfect send-off after five unforgettable years of hard work, laughter, and growth. Held on a beautifully warm evening, students arrived dressed to impress—suits, gowns, and plenty of style on display. The venue was transformed into a sparkling celebration space, complete with lights, music, and plenty of photo opportunities to capture the memories.

From the moment the first song played to the final dance, the night was full of energy. Friends danced together, posed for group photos, and shared moments they’ll remember for years to come. A delicious meal and refreshments kept everyone fuelled for the evening, and the DJ had the dance floor packed all night long.

There were plenty of highlights—from the emotional speeches and teacher shout-outs to the crowning of prom royalty and the inevitable sing-alongs to favourite songs. It was a time to reflect on the journey so far, celebrate achievements, and look ahead to the exciting future beyond Year 11.

The prom was more than just a party—it was a celebration of friendships, memories, and the incredible milestone of completing secondary school. A huge thank you goes to the staff, organisers, and everyone who helped make the evening such a success. It truly was a night to remember.
