Had the pleasure of attending the KUGB Kata Standardisation Course today. Fantastic insight into the technical elements of kata within the KUGB Shotokan syllabus, led by Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan).

If you’ve ever thought about trying karate, now’s the perfect time. We train every Monday and Friday, 6:30–8pm — all ages 7+ and abilities welcome. Come give it a go.

Today Karateka from across the UK travelled to Loughborough for the KUGB Annual Kata Standardisation course with Sensei Frank Brennan 8th Dan.

Todays course was followed by the KUGB AGM.

We’re taking a little pause over Easter — no training while everyone is busy perfecting their chocolate‑eating technique and dodging Easter bunnies.

Training continues as normal after Easter Monday.

Enjoy the break and get ready to hop back into training….the dojo will be back in action Monday’s and Friday’s 6:30–8pm as normal.

🔥 Final Grading 2025 — What a fantastic finish! 🔥

What a way to close out the year.

Cayton Karate Club together with our partner clubs Torashin and Easingwold proudly completed the final grading of 2025 under the expert eye of Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan).

The energy was huge.
The standards were high.
And every student stepped up.

Had the privilege of training in Sunderland under two of the UK’s most respected Shotokan instructors — Sensei Frank Brennan and Sensei Gary Hartford, both 8th Dan and senior figures in the KUGB.

I was honoured to train under their guidance and sharpen skills alongside fellow karateka. Sessions like these push our limits and deepen our understanding of traditional karate.

Every session is a reminder: discipline, respect, and continuous improvement are at the heart of what we do.
