Judo has a funny way of bringing people together.

Stuart and Ely Dojo were supporting coach Ben on his journey as an athlete. Now, while both running their own clubs they are working side by side to help develop judo across our region.

This weekend was another reminder of how far that journey has come, supporting the Regional Championships together, with the clubs alongside one another.

Why I started judo:
• To become a better version of myself
• Improve my fitness and learn new skills
• Develop skills that I can use both on and off the mat

Why I coach:
• Helping young judokas develop and reach their potential
• Building confidence, resilience and social skills
• Supporting them through challenges and celebrating their progress

🥋 20 Years of Judo | 12 Years Assisting & Coaching

• Started Judo after both my children got involved — after hours of watching, I thought I might as well join in and get fit too! 😆

• 12 years later, I’m still coaching… mainly because my son is a muppet and won’t let me retire! 😂

• Joking aside, I love helping players develop, improve and enjoy their Judo journey.

• Coaching also gives me a chance to switch off from everyday problems and focus entirely on helping others grow.

🥋❤️ For me, it’s about enjoying Judo, supporting others and being part of their journey.

🏆 20 Years of Judo | 8 Years Coaching | 10 Years as an International Athlete

• Started Judo as a young kid struggling at school, looking for a positive outlet.

• Judo gave me discipline, confidence, purpose and a path towards a better future.

• Represented my country internationally, won European Cup medals and became British Champion. 🏆

• But my goal as a coach isn’t to create champions or fighters — it’s to build better people.

• I want to help young people develop confidence, resilience, respect and positive character.

• Having experienced those struggles myself, I want to give others the same opportunities Judo gave me.

🥋❤️ Judo gave me more than a sport — now it’s my turn to give back.
