I have just seen this petition to help get Ukrainian as a GCSE. Please sign so that the children here can do their community language as is available for other bilingual students.

I'm very sad to hear of the passing of Benjamin Zephaniah at just 65 years old. I have used his poem below with my advanced English as a foreign language students many times. I thought it described modern London perfectly.

The London Breed

I love dis great polluted place
Where pop stars come to live their dreams
Here ravers come for drum and bass
And politicians plan their schemes,
The music of the world is here
Dis city can play any song
They came to here from everywhere
Tis they that made dis city strong.

A world of food displayed on streets
Where all the world can come and dine
On meals that end with bitter sweets
And cultures melt and intertwine,
Two hundred languages give voice
To fifteen thousand changing years
And all religions can rejoice
With exiled souls and pioneers.

I love dis overcrowded place
Where old buildings mark men and time
And new buildings all seem to race
Up to a cloudy dank skyline,
Too many cars mean dire air
Too many guns mean danger
Too many drugs means be aware
Of strange gifts from a stranger.

It's so cool when the heat is on
And when it's cool it's so wicked
We just keep melting into one
Just like the tribes before us did,
I love dis concrete jungle still
With all its sirens and its speed
The people here united will
Create a kind of London breed.

The brilliant remake of West Side Story contains lots of Spanish too. Probably no longer in many cinemas but TV or DVD shouldn't be missed.

You can offer your support for Ukraine the Duolingo way . 1. Do one lesson of Ukrainian. 2. Go to your little avatar where you will then have the choice of selecting their flag. Et voila! (You will need to do 2.before you go back to studying your usual language lessons because only the flag of your last lesson will be available at the avatar selection point.) It remains until you wish to change it. I hope that makes sense. 💙💛.

Wow - I'll be checking all my Spanish students from 5 to 75 can count to 21 this week! The fabulous Rafa Nadal - the celebrity who comes up more than anyone in my Spanish lessons from the infants colouring his picture to the intermediate adults reading his easy reader biography. Statistically the greatest player in history.

A lifetime of fight, effort and determination, all leading to this moment.

At Rosalind's Language Tuition, you can't learn Mandarin, but we certainly appreciate Grand Slam winners who have. 😲
