We are aware of the unexpected news regarding the cancellation of Year 12 A-Level provision at Sandwich Technology School, and we understand this is an anxious time for affected students and their families so close to the start of term.

As part of our local community, we want to do everything we can to support young people in continuing their Post-16 education without disruption. We are currently reviewing subject capacity to see how we can accommodate additional students for this September and therefore school leaders will be available tomorrow in person to answer your questions.

Date: Tuesday, 25th August

Time: 09:00 – 11:00

🎉 A LEVEL RESULTS 2026: CELEBRATING OUR STUDENTS' SUCCESS! 🎓✨

Students and staff at Sir Roger Manwood’s School are celebrating today following the publication of this year’s A Level results, marking another fantastic year of academic achievement that truly reflects our core values to Engage, Explore, and Excel! 🌟

Throughout their Sixth Form journey, our students have embraced these principles—actively engaging with complex subjects, exploring new academic interests, and striving to excel in their examinations.

🏆 Headline Highlights:
🔹 30% of all grades awarded were A or A*
🔹 83% of all grades were achieved at A to C*

These outstanding results have secured our students places at top universities across the UK, including the University of Oxford, UCL, King’s College London, Durham University, and the University of Edinburgh. 🚀

Graduating students are heading off to study an incredible range of subjects—from Medicine and Architecture to Modern Foreign Languages and beyond!

💬 Mr Pennells, Headteacher:

"We are immensely proud of our Sixth Form students and all they have accomplished today. These results are a testament to what happens when young people truly engage with their learning, have the curiosity to explore new intellectual horizons, and maintain the ambition to excel. We wish them every success as they take these values forward into the next chapter of their lives."

💬 Mr Stedman, Head of Sixth Form:

"It has been a privilege to guide this cohort over the past two years. Beyond these brilliant grades, our students have demonstrated incredible maturity and resilience. By fully engaging with Sixth Form life and taking every opportunity to explore their future options, they have shown what it means to excel. We are thrilled to see their hard work rewarded."

Congratulations to the Class of 2026—you have made the entire Manwood’s community proud! 💙👏

🇿🇦 South Africa Sports Tour - Day 9 & 10 🇿🇦

On our final excursion day, we were up early to set off on our sunrise game drive. After a very misty start, students were again treated to sights of a whole host of animals with their tour guides. One group got to taste a piece of Oryx p**p 💩 whilst another group got to taste a Sorrel plant 🌱

Shortly after, we boarded our coach once more to head back to the UK 🇬🇧 Thank you to Angelo, from Hylton Ross Coaches who was a super star on our trip, ensuring we never missed an activity and helped to share the sights and sounds of South Africa with us.

Thank you to all of the students on the trip for being wonderful throughout, praise was given by the schools we visited, the tour company and our bus driver. They certainly wore the Manwood’s badge with pride 👏🏼

Thank you for joining us on our South African adventure, both staff and students had a blast! 🇿🇦

Congratulations to the CCF students for passing the Emergency First Aid at work Course.

🇿🇦 South Africa Sports Tour - Day 8 🇿🇦

Today we travelled to our final destination of the tour, Garden Route Game Reserve. A lovely curry was enjoyed on arrival followed by our sunset game drive and some stunning views were seen 😍 Each group saw a variety of animals from:

🐘 Salachi & Moya the Elephants
🦆 African Runner Ducks
🐦 The Blue Crane (The National Bird of South Africa)
🐗 Water Buck & Wilderbeast
🦓 Zebra
🐆 Cheetah
🦬 Cape Buffalo
🦛 Hippo
🦁 Lion
🦌 Springbok
🦏 Rhino
🥚Ostrich Egg

The safari finished with a lovely African welcome with marshmallows toasted on an open fire. As we walked back to our chalets, there was a stunning sunset to finish our day 🌅 We look forward to our sunrise safari tomorrow morning where we hope to see more animals on our travels 🐾

🇿🇦 South Africa Sports Tour - Fixture 3 🇿🇦

Our girls competed well against a strong Somerset College side with further improvements seen in both attacking and defending. Footwork has improved dramatically over the course of the week. Goals came from Maria & Sofia with Hannah & Maria both being awarded player of the match 🏐

The boys played extremely well against Somerset College and won 5-1 with goals from Harrison, Joe, Jaedan and two from Elliot. Their half time pep talk certainly helped them to dominate in the second half and secured them the win. Will was given the player of the match award ⚽️

Both teams have performed fantastically this week, given that these touring sides are different to our school sides. The camaraderie between and within both teams has been fantastic to see. Our tour captains and vice captains have led brilliantly from the front and deserve praise for their hard work this week. Finally, well done to the boys’ team for winning the first ever tour series for Manwood’s with two wins and a loss 🏆

🇿🇦 South Africa Sports Tour - Day 7 🇿🇦

Today we had a very early start having to be at breakfast for 5.45am! Our activity for the day was well worth the early start. We headed out to the Cape Canopy Tour, a guided mountain-top ziplining adventure ⛰️ We spent just over 4.5 hours taking in breathtaking views, gliding from one platform to another. Afterwards, we were treated to a lovely hot pie with some students and staff trying Springbok 🦌

🇿🇦 South Africa Sports Tour - Day 6 🇿🇦

Our day started with a visit to the District 6 Museum where we were guided round by people who grew up in District 6. They were able to share personal stories from the time and show items that they had taken with them when they were forced out of the area. It was a great opportunity to understand the history behind the area and how the impacts are still seen to this day.

Next, we headed to Malmesbury to see the wonderful work that Inspire Youth does. We visited a primary school and assisted in two classrooms, wrapped books for the younger class and did some ground maintenance behind the school 📚🪏Upon returning to the farm, we had lunch whilst students from another local primary school joined us. The afternoon was filled with crafts, face paint, games, dance and music and lots of fun was had by all 🎨🖌️⚽️🎶

Finally, we travelled to Stellenbosch to begin the next leg of our tour. Students have settled and ready for an early start tomorrow morning followed by our final fixtures of the week ⏰

SRMS Y9 DT students were asked to enter a STEM competition run by the Rotary Club of Canterbury.
The innovation competition is run every year and schools from all over East Kent enter.
From all the entries only 9 students from 3 schools were selected to present their idea to a panel of judges which include scientists, university lecturers, and industrial experts.

Ivy was our lucky student who was selected to present her idea of “The Walkie Stick”. A walking stick that could aid the older generation to carry on enjoying walking their dog. Her design inspiration came from talking to her grandad who has 2 dogs but also finds it harder and harder to take them out.
The product would combine the walking stick with other elements such as ball thrower, treat delivery and p**p bag holder!
In her lunchtime she made a prototype using 3D printing technology and carried out successful tests with her Grandad and his 2 dogs.
She presented her Idea at Christchurch University against 8 other entries.
Ivy, one of the youngest to present their idea, gave a 5 minute presentation to the judges and wider audience. She then took some questions which she answered very well.
She did not get into the top 3 but it was a very worthy entry. Especially as 2 of the top awards were from Y12 students.

🇿🇦 South Africa Sports Tour - Fixture 2 🇿🇦

Today we travelled to Newlands to play students from Groote Schuur High School. It was another tricky match for our girls but they stepped up, worked well as a team and connections really began to flourish amongst the team. The girls played a dynamic game with great levels of enthusiasm and energy. Player of the match was awarded to Bea with Sofia scoring one goal and Maria scoring three goals 🏐

Football continued to be a close match between schools with Manwood’s pulling 2-0 ahead at half time. With some big changes from GSHS going into the second half they caught up and both teams saw themselves with 3 goals apiece. A late penalty gave GSHS the win but it was a valiant effort by our boys. Well done to Elliot for scoring a goal and to Jaedan for scoring the other two goals and for receiving player of the match ⚽️

Thank you to Groote Schuur for our lovely gifts 🎁 Good luck to both teams in their final matches on Friday afternoon 🍀
