DDS Partnership - Teacher Training Why should I choose DDS? Many of our trainees go on to secure jobs at their training schools and 100% of 2019-20 students secured a teaching role.

We offer quality, local, individualised training with great schools in our Partnership in the Dover, Deal and Sandwich areas, with a fantastic team in place to support you during your training year. We have past trainees who are now mentoring our new cohort so know exactly what support and guidance to provide you throughout your training. School Direct courses last a year and all result in QTS (Qu

alified Teacher Status) with an option to top up to PGCE. The PGCE element of the course consists of two, Masters level assignments. How do the school placements work? You will be based at the school of your choice and be supported by fully trained mentors and experienced teachers. You will gain classroom experience at two contrasting schools within the Partnership giving you access to a range of teaching styles and methodology. We have a fully comprehensive and up to date curriculum studies and professional studies programme which enables you to meet regularly with other Partnership student teachers. Why School Direct? School Direct is a practical route into teaching offering training for both graduates and career changers. You will be fully immersed in the life of a teacher from day one giving you the chance to work and learn alongside teachers within the full time setting of a school. What qualifications do I need? School Direct is a postgraduate qualification so you need to have already completed a degree (at least 2:2) in any subject. In addition, you need GCSEs in English, Maths and (for Primary school applicants) Science – grade C/grade 4 or above. Equivalency tests are available if you don’t have these. ❓ How do you bring your passion for science to the classroom?

For any subject, particularly at secondary, I think it’s important to show students how the subject is relevant to their everyday life. In science especially, the discipline outside of school is always evolving and changing. I love bringing real life science stories into the classroom so students can have discussions and build knowledge of the world around them.

❓ What’s your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of the job is being in the classroom, without a doubt. There’s nothing better than those light bulb moments when students just ‘get it’, or when they are successful at a task or score amazingly on a test and they’re really proud of themselves.

Making progress with some of your hardest to reach students is also one of the main reasons I love my job. Often when year 11 leave, they thank you for your help in getting them the grades to go to college or get an apprenticeship, and you know that all the hard work was worth it.
