The Bay CE School Wins Gold at Chale Show — Again! 🌱 🪴 🌿 🌷
We are delighted to announce that during the summer holidays we won Chale Show's School Gardening competition for another year running! Our Gold award came with prize money and a cup to display at school, the money will go towards more compost and a new wheelbarrow. 🏆
The gardening club at the secondary site has worked hard all year, tending the garden in all weathers, and this year also transformed the pond, which had become completely overgrown.
Huge thanks go to the staff who lead the club; Dr King, Mr Morris, Mrs King and Mr Lyon for many happy Tuesday afternoons spent wading in the pond, weeding, planting, watering and harvesting. Our students have been just as dedicated, turning up first for biscuits and then for hard work! 👏
This year's show display, "A Time for Every Season," featured a giant season’s clock alongside photographs taken each month, tracking the changing seasons in our garden. We enjoyed a bumper crop of tomatoes and runner beans, as well as strawberries, rhubarb, broad beans, onions and potatoes with plenty more still to harvest in the coming weeks.
Special thanks to Ginny at Brading Youth Club, who runs the "MyPlot" programme, supplying us with seedlings and plants propagated by people from across the Island.
We'd love more volunteers and students to join us, gardening is one of the best remedies for stress, and a wonderful way to notice the natural beauty around us. Gardening Club takes place after school on a Tuesday. Please come along and join us. 🍃 🥕 🥬
