🔥 TIN SLINGERS AT CROSSFIT IOW! 🔥

Today, every class at CrossFit IOW took on R.A.D® Tin Slingers and what a day of lifting! 💪

The challenge? Work through the power cleans and burpees, dig deep when the lungs are burning, and then finish with one thing left to do… find that HEAVY CLEAN! 🏋️‍♂️

Every class finished with members pushing themselves to see what they could lift and we saw so many people making improvements, hitting new personal bests and achieving things they might not have thought possible. 🤯🔥

That’s what we love about training at CrossFit IOW. It’s not just about getting sweaty and ticking a workout off the list. It’s about building strength, improving your fitness, challenging yourself and celebrating progress, whether that’s your first heavy clean or a new PB.

Different abilities. Different weights. One gym. Everyone giving it their best. ❤️

A huge THANK YOU to for creating Tin Slingers and giving gyms like ours the opportunity to get involved. We loved bringing this workout to every class and seeing our community rise to the challenge!

And yes… we’re definitely keeping our fingers crossed for those R.A.D® shoes! 👀👟🤞

🤸 GYMNASTICS ISN’T JUST FOR GYMNASTS. IT’S FOR LIFE. 💪

Rope climbs and wall walks might look like movements reserved for the super-fit, but the benefits go far beyond completing a workout.

They’re about building a body that’s capable, strong and resilient, not just today, but for years to come.

🧗 ROPE CLIMBS build grip strength, pulling power, coordination and body control. Grip strength is particularly important as we get older, helping us maintain independence and our ability to carry, hold and handle everyday tasks.

🙌 WALL WALKS develop shoulder strength, stability, core control, coordination and confidence moving your own body through space. They challenge us to build strength in positions we might not regularly encounter in everyday life.

And here’s the important bit… 👇

As we get older, maintaining muscle mass, strength, balance, coordination and confidence becomes increasingly important. We want to be able to lift things, climb stairs, get up off the floor, play with our kids and grandkids and keep doing the things we love.

That doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from training with intent.

At CrossFit IOW, we scale these movements to suit the individual. You don’t need to be able to climb a rope or walk on your hands on day one. You might start with hanging, assisted rope climbs, controlled pulling exercises or wall-walk progressions.

The goal isn’t to be the best gymnast in the room. It’s to become a more capable human being.

You’re never too old to learn a new skill, build strength or challenge what your body can do.

Train for the person you are today. Build for the person you want to be in 20 years. ❤️

BARBELL CYCLING, MORE THAN JUST MOVING A BARBELL. 🏋️‍♂️

One of the things you might not realise when you first look at CrossFit is just how much skill goes into moving a barbell efficiently.

Barbell cycling is the ability to perform multiple repetitions with a barbell while maintaining good technique, rhythm and efficiency, rather than simply lifting the weight from the floor over and over again.

And it’s incredibly effective training.

It teaches you to:

💪 Build strength endurance
🫁 Work hard while managing your breathing
⚡ Develop power and speed
🎯 Improve movement efficiency and technique
🧠 Learn how to pace yourself under fatigue
🔥 Produce more work without simply adding more weight

The key is that we don’t just throw a barbell at you and tell you to get on with it.

Our coaches break down the movement, teach you the positions, give you appropriate loading and then help you develop the skill over time.

Whether you’re brand new to barbells or you’ve been lifting for years, there’s always something to improve.

You don’t have to be fit to start. You don’t have to be strong to start. You just have to start.

At CrossFit IOW, we coach you through the process, helping you move better, get stronger and become more capable along the way.

Come and see what you’re capable of.

🐾 K9 KITT, with a very special visitor.

This morning we had a rather serious-looking member join us at CrossFit IOW…

PD Echo, an Isle of Wight Police Dog, came along to the box. And he was clearly here to make sure we were all behaving ourselves. 😂🐕

Today we took on K9 Kitt, a CrossFit Hero workout created to honour a service dog and recognise the courage, loyalty and dedication of working K9s and their handlers.

There’s something pretty special about doing a Hero workout when you have one of the island’s own working dogs as a member.

No complaints.
No excuses.
No missed reps.

And absolutely zero chance of sneaking an extra rest day. 😂

But behind the laughs is a genuine respect for the incredible work these dogs do every single day, alongside their handlers, often putting themselves in harm’s way to protect and serve others.

So today, we train with purpose, remember K9 Kitt, and show some love to PD Echo and all the working dogs who dedicate their lives to helping others.

🐾 Good boy, Echo. You’ve earned your place on the whiteboard.

21 rounds for time;
6 deadlifts
5 hang power Cleans
4 front squats
3 STOH
200ft carry… (was raining we did 30 sec bar hold, anyhow)
Use an appropriate way to get done with inside 35-40 minutes. RX 35kg / 27.5kg (KITT weighed 36 kg)

Hero workouts are challenging CrossFit workouts created to honour fallen military, law enforcement and emergency service heroes. They are designed to test both physical and mental strength while remembering the courage, sacrifice and service of the person they commemorate.

Taking on Laura, a CrossFit Hero workout, means a little more when you’re surrounded by the people who make CrossFit IOW what it is.

It’s not just about completing a tough workout. It’s about coming together, working as a team and remembering that we’re stronger when we work together.

When someone is struggling, there’s always someone there to help.

When the workout gets tough, the encouragement gets louder.

That’s the power of our community.

Different abilities. Different goals. Different journeys but for that hour, we’re all in it together.

We push.
We support.
We inspire.
We don’t leave anyone behind.

This is what CrossFit IOW is all about. ❤️

LOOK AT THIS LADY GO! 👏

We’ve shared Julie’s progression before and last year she set herself a simple but hugely important goal:

To be able to do a box step-up.

Fast forward to this year… she’s now squatting to parallel! 🔥

Julie has lived with painful knees for most of her life, so this isn’t just about what happens inside the gym.

It’s about building strength, confidence and physical capacity that can help her enjoy a better quality of life as she gets older.

These are the moments we love as coaches.

Not just PBs on the barbell, but seeing someone achieve something they once thought might not be possible.

Progress takes time. Consistency matters.
Julie, you should be incredibly proud of yourself.

A massive round of applause for this lady! 👏👏👏

Keep going, Julie. We can’t wait to see what’s next! ❤️

DEADLIFT FOR LIFE. 💪

The deadlift isn’t just about lifting heavy weights.

It’s about staying strong enough to pick things up, carry things, move well and live independently as you get older.

As we age, maintaining muscle, strength, bone density and confidence in our movement becomes increasingly important.

You don’t need to deadlift 200kg.

You just need to keep training your body to lift, hinge and get stronger.

Train for today.
Train for 10 years from now.
Train for life.
