The Year 7 rugby team made an impressive debut in their first competitive tournament last week at Edgbarrow School. Competing against nine local schools, it was a fantastic experience for our new squad, many of whom were playing the sport competitively for the very first time. Led brilliantly by captain Vinnie M., who set the standard with his work rate and leadership, the team showcased determination, discipline, and plenty of raw talent throughout the day.
Sandhurst got off to a flying start in their opening match, putting in a clinical performance to defeat Bulmershe 20–5. The second game presented a tougher challenge against a well-drilled Edgbarrow side boasting several club players. However, Sandhurst put on a defensive masterclass and earned a well-deserved 5–5 draw thanks to a late, dramatic try from Dexter.
The third match was an exceptionally close contest, with Sandhurst narrowly edged out 0–5 by Brakenhale. Unfazed by the setback, the boys bounced back magnificently in their final game, dominating EP in a brilliant 20–0 victory to end the tournament on a high and secure a strong overall ranking.
It was an outstanding first outing for the squad, who have already returned to training eager to build on this promising foundation.
