Weekly Round Up

The Nest

A fun-filled week in Nest! We have been creating small world villages with train tracks, people and buildings, encouraging role play, imagination and communication and language.

To support our interest in sensory play, we have also enjoyed dancing with sensory scarves alongside Edie, exploring movement, music and different textures. It has been a lovely week of exploring, playing and learning together!

Hedgehogs

This week in Hedgehogs, we have been exploring our emotions and talking about what makes us feel happy and what makes us feel sad. We have used The Colour Monster story, teddies and mirrors to help us recognise and express our feelings. We have also been celebrating our differences, looking at features such as the colour of our eyes and hair and recognising what makes each of us unique.

Foxes

Foxes have had a creative and busy week! Our construction area has been a particular favourite, where we have used photographs of famous buildings as inspiration and challenged ourselves to recreate them using different types of blocks.

In the garden, we have enjoyed our bean bag toss, developing our hand-eye coordination as we aimed for the holes. We have also been putting our maths skills into practice by counting and adding up our scores!

Badgers

We have had a very special week in Badgers as we celebrated the final days of our wonderful school leavers. We would like to say a huge thank you for all the thoughtful gifts and cards we have received. It has been a pleasure watching the children grow and develop during their time with us.

At Forest School this week, we have been learning about fire safety and practising how to put out a pretend fire using spray bottles.

Music has also been a big part of our week. We have loved singing together on the stage and experimenting with different musical instruments, playing along to some of our favourite songs.

Getting Ready for School

Going to school can be an intimidating prospect for children. It is a big change, bringing new surroundings, new routines, new faces and lots of new experiences.

As parents and carers, there are lots of simple ways we can help children feel confident and emotionally ready for this exciting next step.

Talking openly about school can help children understand what to expect. Encourage them to share their feelings and reassure them that it is completely normal to feel nervous, excited or even a little worried.

Reading stories about starting school, practising routines and encouraging independence can all help children feel more prepared. Simple things such as putting on their own coat, managing their belongings, using the toilet and asking an adult for help can make a big difference to their confidence.

Most importantly, remind your child that they do not have to know everything before they start. School readiness is about feeling secure, developing independence and knowing that there will always be a trusted adult there to support them.

Let's help our Preschooler children approach this exciting new chapter with confidence, curiosity and a sense of belonging.

🌿 Weekly Round Up🌿

Nest✨
This week, The Nest have been exploring our sensory den and watching the lights change colour. We’ve also been making music with instruments, sharing with our friends and singing lots of nursery rhymes! Some of our children have been settling into Hedgehogs, while others are beginning their nursery journey, spending lots of time building special bonds with adults and peers. 💛🎶

Hedgehogs 🦖
Dinosaurs have been a big interest in Hedgehogs this week! We explored a dinosaur sensory swamp, noticing differences in colours, spikes and footprints. We’ve also been developing our self-care skills through baby role play, practising dressing and un******ng, as well as investigating the garden for bugs and insects using magnifying glasses. 🔎🌿

Foxes 🎨
Foxes have been getting creative while exploring the work of famous artists such as Monet and Picasso. We experimented with foam shapes, cotton buds and forks to create different prints and arrangements. We’ve also been exploring emotions through Colour Monster jars and developing communication, turn-taking and early maths skills in our very own Foxes Ice Cream Shop! 🍦🌈

Badgers🎨🍃
Badgers have been developing their fine motor and creative skills through cutting, sticking and creating their own pictures and designs. We’ve also been using leaves from our garden to make marks and patterns, exploring natural resources in our creativity. Alongside this, we’ve been mixing colours, making predictions and discovering what new colours we can create! 🌈✨

🌿 Weekly Rundown

🪺 Nest

This week we have been welcoming some new friends for their first settling-in sessionsand helping them feel comfortable in their new environment. We have been developing our fine motor skills through mark making with crayons and making our own playdough, exploring its texture as we mixed and moulded it with our hands. We have also enjoyed spending time in our sensory tent, exploring a variety of objects and engaging our five senses. 💛👐

🦔 Hedgehogs

This week we have been developing our communication and language through inset puzzles, talking about what we can see and matching pieces to the correct spaces. We have also been practising our cutlery skills through messy play and developing our gross motor skills in the garden tunnel. Water play has been lots of fun too, especially making footprints with our wet feet! 👣💦

🦊 Foxes

This week we have been exploring a range of 'textures' including slime, cloud dough and playdough, while developing our descriptive language and learning new words to describe what we can feel. We have also been mark making using stamps, sponges, forks and shaped prints, giving meaning to the marks we create. Our letter hunts in messy sawdust tuff trays have been a fun way to develop our early literacy skills too! 🔤🎨

🦡 Badgers

This week we have been developing our fine motor skills, hand strength and coordination through playdough, using different tools to roll, cut, press and shape our creations. We have also enjoyed craft activities, practising our cutting and sticking skills while developing concentration and independence. ✂️🎨

We have been exploring the globe and the wider world, learning about different countries and discovering where animals live. This has encouraged lots of curiosity and conversations as we shared our ideas and learnt about animals from around the world. 🌍🐘

🌿 Nest
This week, our Nest children have been exploring a sensory tent, discovering different lights, textures and materials through hands-on play. We also enjoyed lots of singing and dancing to support our physical development and explored touch-and-feel books, encouraging communication, language and early sensory exploration.

🦔 Hedgehogs
Hedgehogs have been developing their independence by dressing and un******ng baby dolls, strengthening their self-care skills through imaginative play. We also completed puzzles to support our early maths and fine motor development and explored jungle safari animals, encouraging curiosity and learning about the world around us.

🦊 Foxes
This week, Foxes explored frozen playdough using a variety of tools, investigating different textures and learning new descriptive words. We also challenged ourselves with obstacle courses to develop our physical skills and practised holding scissors safely while making snips in paper to strengthen our fine motor control.

🦡 Badgers
Badgers have been celebrating National Coast Guard Day with a beach-themed tuff tray, using their imaginations while learning about the seaside and water safety. We also developed our fine motor and early literacy skills by using tweezers to match letters in gloop and enjoyed imaginative role play with puppets, recreating school experiences to build confidence and communication skills. 💚
