๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿšœ New Sheepfold Farm Visit ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ‘

Reception had a wonderful day visiting New Sheepfold Farm as part of our learning about life all around us and the important role farmers play in our community.

The children enjoyed meeting and feeding the goats and sheep, learning about how they are cared for and why they are so important on the farm. We also explored how farming has changed over time through a fun and interactive activity where some children pretended to be bales of hay while others became horses, pulling pallets to demonstrate the meaning of "horsepower" and how work was carried out before tractors and modern machinery were introduced.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience life on a working farm, learn where some of our food comes from, and gain a greater appreciation of the hard work that goes into farming every day.

We were incredibly proud of the children's curiosity, enthusiasm, and excellent behaviour throughout the visit. A huge thank you to everyone at New Sheepfold Farm for making our day so memorable! ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿ’ฉ Reception's Dinosaur Discovery! ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿฆ–

As part of our new concept, "Then and Now", Reception have been learning all about dinosaurs and exploring life on Earth millions of years ago!

We enjoyed reading the hilarious story The Dinosaur That Pooped a Planet and discussing the different types of dinosaurs that once roamed our planet. The children learned that there were:

๐Ÿฆ• Carnivores โ€“ dinosaurs that ate meat
๐ŸŒฟ Herbivores โ€“ dinosaurs that ate plants
๐Ÿ–๐ŸŒฟ Omnivores โ€“ dinosaurs that ate both plants and meat

The children responded brilliantly to the question, "Are dinosaurs here now?" They discussed how dinosaurs are now extinct and shared their own ideas and knowledge about why dinosaurs no longer live on Earth.

Our young palaeontologists then became dinosaur poo investigators! ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’ฉ The children sorted, cut open, and broke apart different pieces of "dinosaur poo" to discover what was inside. By examining the contents, they worked out whether the poo belonged to a carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore dinosaur.

To finish the session, the children had great fun making their own dinosaur poo and worked with Mr Dalton and Mrs Quine to write instructions for how to make it. This will support our writing focus over the coming week as the children learn how to write their own set of instructions.

What a fantastic start to our new concept! We can't wait to see where our dinosaur discoveries take us next! ๐Ÿฆ–โœจ

Over the past half term, our Nursery and Reception children have absolutely loved taking part in the Teens and Toddlers programme alongside students from Huntcliff School and Laurence Jackson School.

The relationships that have been built between the students and our EYFS children have been wonderful to see, with the children benefiting from extra support, encouragement, positive role models and lots of fun learning experiences. The programme helps to build confidence, communication skills, social development and emotional wellbeing for everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all of the students for their enthusiasm, kindness and commitment throughout the programme. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact they have had in school and we are already looking forward to welcoming them back after the holidays!
