After making our delicious apple and rhubarb crumble, we continued our learning with some fun flour activities!

The children enjoyed mark making in flour, using their fingers and tools to create different patterns and shapes.

We also practised our scooping and pouring skills using flour and oats, helping to develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and concentration.

A wonderful morning of hands-on learning, exploring textures and having lots of fun!..

This week’s outdoor cooking activity was making delicious apple and rhubarb crumble!

The children enjoyed preparing the fruit, mixing the crumble topping and learning about the ingredients along the way.

The best part? They get to take their homemade crumble home to bake and enjoy with their families!..

Yesterday we learnt all about the wonderful people in our community who help us

We talked about what different helpers do, the special jobs they have and how they help to keep us safe and healthy. We also enjoyed learning through stories, play and lots of fun activities!

After collecting our lovely vegetables from Hayley’s allotment, we headed into the woods for a very special cooking adventure!

We chopped our own potatoes, carrots and other freshly picked vegetables before cooking them together over the fire to make a delicious, healthy vegetable soup. The children loved being involved in every step — from preparing the vegetables to watching our soup bubble away and enjoying the wonderful smells!

But that wasn’t all… We also made our very own butter from double cream! We shook and shook until the cream transformed into delicious homemade butter, ready to spread onto the beautiful bread rolls that Mighty Oaks Childcare had made for us.

There was something extra special about sitting together in the woods, enjoying a meal made with our own hands and ingredients we had helped to collect…

What a wonderful morning we had visiting our friend Hayley’s allotment!

We got stuck in and enjoyed getting hands-on with nature — digging up our very own potatoes , pulling up carrots and picking delicious raspberries straight from the plant!

We also loved exploring everything growing around us, from beautiful pumpkins and colourful rainbow chard, to courgettes, flowers and so much more.

It was such a lovely opportunity to see where our food comes from, learn about growing and caring for plants, and experience the joy of being outdoors. The children were fascinated by all the colours, shapes, smells and textures they discovered!

A huge thank you to our lovely friend little_wonders2025 for welcoming us and sharing her allotment with us.

Today we explored the wonderful world around us through our five senses! From touching different textures and listening to interesting sounds, to smelling, looking closely and discovering new tastes, our little learners were busy exploring and making connections.

Sensory play is a fantastic way to encourage curiosity, communication, language and learning — all while having lots of fun!

Today we had a fun-filled day exploring, creating and learning!

We headed to the woods to explore healthy eating 🍎🥕, decorated our initials, added hair to our emotion faces and created portraits of ourselves 🎨🖌️.

We also got our bodies moving and had lots of fun dancing and singing along to ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’ and many more of our favourite songs! 🎶💃🕺

So much creativity, movement, laughter and learning all in one day…
