In leadership, you must first lead and understand yourself. Then through taking the opportunity and employing bravery and courage, you develop yourself, connect with, and help others. With this action, you can live authentically and action your vision for a better world. - This is the strong message that came through on the Leaders Institute of South Australia's Youth Governors Leadership Foundation Skills Camp at Mylor back in April. It was great to be inspired by curious, passionate, empathetic and informed young people who are leaders in their own right and change the world daily with positive words and actions.

Community involvement is really meaningful to me. Since leaving highschool, I have been involved in various community groups that have supported my personal and professional development, as well as allowed me to serve my community/ give back. Salisbury City Rotaract Club is one of these places that has allowed this.

Friday, 15th of July 2022, was the 9th Annual Changeover Event of the Salisbury City Rotaract Club! ❤️

📍This year was held at The Salisbury Hotel - making use of their function space, the magnificent Patio.

🎤 We heard from President Emily Harman about the club's activities and how Salisbury City Rotaract is a social club that serves the community. Emily also laid down her plans for the coming year – one that was simple to embrace further our motto and continue to lead the way in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

🤗We welcomed Renee Webster as a club member and Steven McLachlan as an Honorary Member of our Rotaract Community.

🎤Speeches were given by Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM, District Governor 9510 Paul Thomas AM, District Rotaract Representative Lucy Kopp, Out-going Rotaract Chair Julie Johnson and President Mignon from the Rotary Club of Salisbury, SA.

Today, Damien supported The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award at Youth In Salisbury – a program that develops young leaders personally and professionally. Damien and the young people explored the lasting impact words/language have on people in our world.

Young people began to assess what impact they want their words and actions as community leaders. They were empowered to consider their influence in the community, to flip their self-talk to be more positive and purposeful with their word choice. These incredible young people will change lives through their interactions, where they will build people up with their feel-good words.

𝕀𝕟𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕕𝕦𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝔻𝕒𝕞𝕚𝕖𝕟:
Damien Walker is an adaptable educator and social change leader with extensive experience in life skills education and youth leadership. He is passionate about connecting young people to a meaningful purpose within their lives by developing life skills and providing moments of reflection to support self-actualisation and authenticity.

Damien works as a teacher, well-being supporter and learning area coordinator within the education system. His professional experience spans 6 years of youth training and 3.5 years as a specialist Food & Textiles Technology Teacher.

Damien, before teaching, worked within the youth training, empowerment, and development sector. He has run programs like the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) & Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) (2015-20). He has also been the Leader Facilitator / Award Leader for The Parafield Gardens Youth Duke of Edinburgh Program (2018, 2019). Most recently, he has also supported the Skill Building Camp for the Youth Governors Leadership Foundation (Youth GLF 2022).

Participants in Workshops by Damien are assisted to align their values, beliefs, and actions to achieve authenticity. Through moments of growth, reflection and sharing, authenticity and self-actualisation are promoted.
