Our Woodland Wonders at Kindred Odstock have embraced the changing seasons, wrapped up warmly, and celebrated the new life emerging in our forest area.
After singing our special forest song, we noticed the snowdrops in bloom. We introduced the children to our snowdrop song and accompanied them with the recorder. They were enchanted by the sound and eager to try it themselves; it was truly joyful to make music in the forest. Alongside the tongue drum, the experience was magical.
We heard the story of the snowdrop and were excited to create our own snowdrop fairy characters, sharing stories around the trees. This involved lots of winding string and clay work as we figured out how to attach leaves to make her hair—an excellent exercise in problem-solving skills.
A beautiful mindful activity involved making clay birds while sitting in the forest, listening to and observing the visiting birds. We left our clay creations perched in the trees as a reminder of the lovely songs we heard.
We used our Hazel twigs to create heart sculptures using string and our knotting skills too.
Some of the children were eager to practise their whittling skills using peelers. Using real tools empower the children, showing our trust in their ability to be safe and handle them responsibly.
Of course, there were also concoctions to be sampled in the mud kitchen, and a relaxing time spent on the hammock, accompanied by a backdrop of music.
