The children had a fun and spotty week celebrating and raising money for Children in Need in November.

Preschool Poppy Pictures

This week, one of Piglet’s children came in with some leaves they’d found on their walk to preschool and very proudly showed them to their friends.
Following on from the child’s interest, Piglets staff have been planning Autumn activities for the children to explore the change in season and the way our environment changes around us.
So far they have been looking at the changes in colour of the leaves and winter vegetable printing. 🍁🍂🍃🥕🧅

Bishopdown Farm Pre-school is a well-established Pre-school providing early years education for children 2 -5 years old. Farm Friends a wraparound care facility providing Breakfast Club and After School Club care for children of Greentrees Primary School. We have an amazing team of staff and are now looking for two enthusiastic, passionate new team members to work in our Piglets Room.
Your role would involve working with children, supporting the current staff in providing development through play , supporting the children during meal and snack times, and providing general care.
Experience preferred but not essential as there will be training opportunities available for the successful applicant. The successful applicant will require a current DBS certificate.
Hourly rate determined by experience. The role is 30 hours a week, Monday - Friday, term time only.

Lambs book of the week was The Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson.
The children enjoyed the story joining in with the rhyming words. They chose various coloured and patterned card, then cut out and stuck together their crowns, hung the washing on the line, cut out outfits and dressed their own giants, plus cut out and decorated the giants tie.
The children did really well with all the cutting, they showed good control and confidence when using the scissors and knew about scissor safety.
A lovely activity Lambs well done! ⭐⭐

Piglets have been very busy today celebrating Canada Day. 🇨🇦
They read a fab book using numbers to show Canada’s favourite things, coloured and made their own flags, and made yummy cakes using the two colours of the flag. 🇨🇦
A lovely activity learning about a different country.

The children made their own fire using large Lego blocks. 🔥🔥 They stacked them one on top of the other for the fire then decided they wanted to toast marshmallows on it. They sang ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star ⭐ as their marshmallows were toasting.
Fantastic imagination, teamwork and decision making. A brilliant activity completely child initiated!!!

It was a very colourful week in Lambs, as their book of the week was Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee.
The children designed their own Elmer patterns using colouring sheets. They made their own beautiful elephants using various coloured tissue paper which they cut up into different sized pieces and stuck onto the top part of plastic milk bottles. They were very intrigued how a plastic bottle could turn into an elephant 🐘
Their cooking activity was amazing bright coloured cupcakes which caused lots of excited conversations as the children mixed different food colouring into individual bowls of cake mix. They then put each colour into individual piping bags and in turn squeezed one of each bag into a cake case. The finished product was fab….and tasted amazing! 😋🧁
Small cardboard cut out elephants were made and the children used bright coloured wool to wrap around each one to make Elmer using another different resource.
It was a really fun filled week, enjoyed by all with some brilliant activities.

Today Piglets went flower collecting on Greentrees field to make flower pictures. 🌿🌱🌸 They picked flowers for a short time before getting distracted by the running lanes marked out on the field. 🤣🤣
The children all lined up at the start of the lanes and after hearing ‘ready, steady, go’ the children all raced to the end 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️. Once they reached the finish line there were lots of shouts of ‘I did it, I did it!’ 🎉🎉
On returning inside the children chose the flowers they wanted and placed them inside a laminate sheet, which was put through the laminating machine. The children were all very proud of what they had achieved not only with their pictures, but their running as well ⭐️⭐️
It was a lovely activity exploring our outside environment and how it can be used in different ways.

On Monday, Piglet’s activity was ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen.
The children sat and listened to the story first, then they went outside to try and find the bear. After going through swishy grass, squelchy mud, cold snow and bubble wind, using their binoculars, they found the bear in his big dark cave!! 🐻
We joined in with Michael Rosen as he read the story and did all the actions on our screen. We also made and decorated bear biscuits which we took home with us.
It was a really fun filled sensory day and we all loved finding the bear.🐻

Last week Lambs book of the week was ‘Oi Frog’ by Kes Gray & Jim Field which is a rhyming book.
The children joined in at story time working out which word rhymed with frog, goat, cat, hare, mule, parrot, lion, fox,gorillas and gopher, just name a few!🐸🐏🐰🐴 🦁🦊🦍
They talked about the life cycle of a frog , how they start off as frogspawn, then tadpole, froglet, then frog 🐸 there was lots of discussion between the children about this activity.
The children explored a pond which had lillypads and frogs in. The children knew frogs live in ponds as we have frogs in our garden which live in Greentrees pond and we have seen frogspawn on the pond before.
They made their own frogs faces using biscuits and icing, and also coloured in pictures.
It was a fun book to read and really got the children thinking about rhyming words.
