Summer School at Messums Studios kicked off with Valentina Zlatarova’s 5-day Sculpting the Human Torso course, and what an inspiring way to begin the season.

Over five immersive days, our studio was filled with curiosity, focus, conversation, and creativity as students explored the human form under Valentina’s expert guidance. It was a joy to watch each sculpture evolve, with every participant bringing their own unique perspective and approach to the process.

Wonderful students, beautiful studio light, and some truly exceptional sculptures made for an unforgettable week. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a generous, supportive, and inspiring atmosphere.

Here’s to a summer filled with creativity, learning, and making - we can’t wait to welcome the next group of artists through the studio doors. ✨

Saturday mornings are made for creativity, and this one was no exception. ✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined our Messums Studios team members, Edward Scott for mono screen printing and Sandra Coombes for clay bird modelling, at our Makers Morning at Messums West.

It was a joy to see so many people embracing new techniques, sharing ideas, and creating beautiful handmade pieces to take home.

We loved spending the morning with you and hope you’ll join us again to discover more inspiring workshops and creative courses at Messums Studios.

It’s been a busy few weeks here at the Studios as we’ve wrapped up our termly classes and welcomed the start of our Summer Short Courses. ☀️🎨

Amidst all the excitement, we’ve also had the pleasure of hosting some incredible young creatives for Work Experience alongside their GCSE and A-Level Art studies.

Many of you will have met them over the past week. They were a joy to have around, helping with everything from admin and social media to preparing clay, keeping the studio running smoothly, chatting with our wonderful community, and even finding time to explore their own creative projects.

We’re so proud to support the next generation of artists. 💛

We have a limited number of Work Experience placements available each year, so if you know a young creative who would benefit from spending time with us, we’d love to hear from you—just get in touch early to register your interest.

Messums Studios presents UNWIND

Ease into the weekend with a different kind of Friday evening. Held monthly at The Mess Café, Messums West, UNWIND is a creative social gathering designed to bring together curious minds and creative spirits.

Join us for an inspiring mix of making, conversation, and connection in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Whether you’re looking to explore your creativity, meet like-minded people, or simply take a moment to slow down, UNWIND offers the space to do just that.

Expect hands-on creative experiences, engaging conversations, and a little Friday-night magic along the way.

Thursdays in the pottery studio are all about curiosity and creativity. Under the guidance of our specialist tutor Mirka Golden-Hann, clay has endless possibilities — if you can imagine it, you can shape it.

Join Abstracting the Landscape - a two-day painting and drawing course at Messums Studios, led by tutor Emma J Findley.

Working both outdoors and in the studio, you’ll explore abstraction through drawing, painting, mark-making, colour, and composition. Begin en plein air, responding to light, atmosphere, and the surrounding landscape, before developing your studies into expressive abstract works back in the studio.

Open to all experience levels, this immersive course encourages experimentation, spontaneity, and a more intuitive approach to image-making. Discover new ways to bring movement, energy, and expression into your work.

currently attending our Saturday afternoon sessions at Messums Studios to support and extend their A level art portfolio.

The fact that we created a space in which young people learn, experiment, discover and creatively describe experiences is something we are particularly proud of.
