24th October a motion was raised in the House of Commons recognise October as AADHD Awareness Monthand to share, recognise and highlight one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions across the world. It is thought that those in the UK aged between 5-15yrs, almost 4% of boys have ADHD, compared to less than 1% of girls, although this could be much higher for both groups as often families are too frightened to get a diagnosis, the diagnosis process is lengthy depending on where you are, it can also be quite costly for families. Often students will present very differently depending on who they are with so collating evidence can also cause a barrier to assessments.
The ADHD UK has a collection of YouTube clips explaining about ADHD from the perspective of someone with ADHD, giving a first-hand account about their experiences.

When I started Inspire Assessments 7 months ago, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had been a teacher for almost 20years and an assessor for 8 years, a job which I loved. to say I was scared would be an understatement. Fast forward to now and these last 7 months and I look back at those things which I have managed to achieve and the amazing school staff I have met and worked with, going back to work in a primary school to help get students ready for secondary school transition, Tutoring and watching her grow in confidence and more recently assessing for exam access arrangements at a post 16 college and diagnostic assessments.
One of my highlights have been seeing how my previous students have been doing on their next journey, I am extremely proud at the young people they are becoming, they have overcome their own personal struggles, educational struggles, Covid lockdowns and home learning and everything else that teens have to face.
Inspire Assessments will always make the young person the centre of everything we do, so that the best outcomes are achievable for teachers and parents to enable the young person to also grow and flourish.
