Chettle forest school

We seem to be getting a lot of traffic, Chettle forest school is on a break at the moment. Numbers dropped to such an extent with people coming of age and moving without a new cohort joining. With low numbers running sessions wasn’t viable. We need at least ten participants to make it work.
We had ideas of running holiday clubs and hope to rekindle this in the future. If you are interested your child joining a new group or joining a holiday club in half term please get in touch.

It’s been a while since we posted,
Chettle forest school had to close down before Easter, it was unavoidable, low numbers due to older kids moving on.

We are hoping to open up for some summer sessions, these will also included kids from mainstream.

An update on recent activities, we have been busy in the woods coppicing, using the materials harvested we have started to build a woven fence around our fire area.
The last few weeks we have been making Christmas decorations. Eating and keeping warm by the fire. With Falafel last week and pancakes today.

If you would like your child to join us we have places for the new year.

Our first day with coppicing at Chettle forest schools between showers, learned today how to fell and grade material into usable products. Next week we will harvest another stool sharpen stakes and begin weaving a fence as part of our day.

The last couple of weeks have been really frustrating because it’s been too windy to be in the woods. We’re lucky to have access to Chettle lovely little village hall opposit let the playground, and have been taking advantage of the power in the hut to use the pyrograph and do some majorly crafty activity.
Needle felting, leather work, weaving drumming, benchmarking and whittling.

Pumpkin carving, roasted seeds, bread and soup. It’s feeling like Halloween.

We are still looking for young people to join our Tuesdays forest schools group. Between now and Christmas we are to begin coppicing a small piece of woodland, processing the materials, doing some green woodworking as well as lots of other cool forest schools stuff.
The group is for 8-16 year olds in a beautiful coppice woodland in Chettle.

Sessions run through term time on Tuesday from 10 - 4pm.
