PROJECT UPDATE!
Meet Timothy, our K4C orthopaedic technician from Fort Portal (Uganda) and Maryam, a Prosthetist/Orthotist from Zanzibar.
They have travelled to the UK for 3 weeks, supported by the University of Salford.
The main aim of their trip is to collaborate with staff and students at the University on the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) which are the leading cause of leg amputations in East Africa.
They have presented at a seminar the specific challenges facing their respective countries, and how these compared to the UK context. They also attended several training sessions and have been introduced to a range of potential new technologies that could help to establish diabetic foot treatment centre within their workplaces.
