If busy spaces get a bit overwhelming for anyone in your group, please do ask for one of our visit boards from reception when you arrive to help you get set for your trip. We've also got ear-defenders to help with the noise!

Did I miss the memo that said there was a choice? Is it optional?

Of course it isn’t. As a parent, my role is to make sure my children’s needs are met. That is what we do. We have to battle for it, we have to take lots of knock backs and there are times we want to hide away but we don’t.

She’s not in Greater Manchester, but please can we all cross everything for Steph & her amazing daughter today? No family should have to go to court to make sure their child’s needs will be met in school.

Yesterday was a very tough day at Long Road HQ ..

I think this sketch probably says it all 😔

We need to stop calling it “school refusal” - it isn’t. (Emotion Based School Avoidance) is a realisation of “I just can’t do this any more”. It’s a culmination of lots of little “micro-aggressions” .. moments of overwhelm and tiny triggers … until the child just can’t handle the school environment any more.

“School refusal” is such a punitive way to look at what’s actually a cry for help and understanding.

We wouldn’t chastise an adult for taking time off work for their , but the school system still don’t yet understand or accommodate children - or otherwise - who need that too.

The system needs to change.
