The results are in for our Futureworks graduate awards… 🏆

This week, we celebrated our creative graduates as they walked the stage and shone a light on the students who earned our Best Piece of Work award for work that went far beyond a university project.

🐝 School of Film, TV & Media award – Adam Higginson, for his final year that saw him building and founding his motion graphics promotion company, Beehold.

🎶 School of Sound & Music Production award – Sam Ebbrell, for the production of his debut album ‘Conscience’ under Kumiho, blending mainstream pop and K-pop with an 80s sound.

🎮 School of Art & Design award – Zack Whitehead, for his fabulously finished and ready to launch game, Nadir Inc, offering an entire playing experience.

At Futureworks, we’re proud to build a community of creatives who inspire one another and develop their craft for lifelong careers. We can’t wait to see where these three go next!

Doing research into a potential creative degree?

If you’re an upcoming student exploring your options, a parent or interested in reigniting a dream career, Animation and Illustration could be the one. But what should you be looking for? 🔎

✅ Balance – Look for integration, not just titles. A degree should shape both animation and illustration, so make sure it’s not missed!
✅ Practical Work – With a practical side, put creativity into action, not just on paper
✅ 2D vs 3D – Modern animation can do both. Make sure you can explore and build strengths in both avenues
✅ Portfolios – Employers and clients want evidence, so build a portfolio throughout the entire course, not just the final moments
✅ Connections – The industry is evolving. Keep up with experienced tutors and creative organisation partnerships

Our multi-genre, in-house record label is open to both students, alumni, and staff, allowing music careers to flourish since 2011.

With over 47 million combined sales, streams, and micro-syns, it’s helped talent from our mighty city to reach listeners across the globe.

And there’s no catch! The studio is free of charge, allowing eager music fanatics to see under the bonnet and even perform at The Eagle Inn where you can test your tunes to listeners.

Sending a son or daughter off to Futureworks this September? Or starting yourself?

Moving to a new city for uni is a big step, and it's easy to focus on the exciting bits and forget the practical ones. A few things worth sorting before day one:

🏠 Accommodation – confirm your move-in date and what's provided vs what you'll need to bring
💻 Kit – a reliable laptop and a backup drive for your work (creative files add up quickly)
🎒 The basics – bedding, kitchen essentials, and anything specific to your course (headphones, a sketchbook, whatever suits your discipline)
🤝 Support – Futureworks has a wellbeing and learning support team on hand from day one, so settling in isn't something you have to figure out alone

First-week nerves are completely normal but don’t worry, most people find their feet within a few days.

And if there’s ever a need for some extra help, our Student Advice Centre can be found on the third floor.
