If you know some Spanish but feel rusty when it’s time to speak, this is for you!!

Canoa Local is a relaxed Spanish conversation group for adults around Hastings or St.Leonards. Led by Jenifer, a native Spanish teacher from Colombia. It’s friendly, informal but guided.

Courage has lots of faces, shapes, voices, stories... 🧡

As part of Refugee Week, we collaborated with for a special workshop. And in our space, COURAGE came with SPANISH, becoming a bridge to connect with each other.

Through practicing 'Small Talk' in Spanish and sharing traveling experiences around Spanish-speaking countries, we proved that a language is much more than words, it is a tool for empathy and shared experiences.

A huge thank you to everyone who came. Thank you for your active participation and your enthusiasm for Spanish.

Thank you to for an incredible week full of spaces that remind us that community, support, and connection make a huge difference in everyone's life, no matter where you come from.

And a special thanks to and for letting us use this space.

To celebrate Refugee Week under the theme of COURAGE🧡, we’d love to invite you to a special Spanish workshop to learn, practise, and share together.

🗓️ Friday, 19th of June, 2026
🕒 3pm -4pm
📍Hypha Studios, Priory Meadow, Shopping Center, Hastings, TN34 1PH

This is a space to reflect while enjoying the experience of speaking another language. It takes courage to try, make mistakes, and communicate in a new way, and that’s exactly what language learning is all about. It’s not always easy, but it can be fun, rewarding, and full of unexpected connections.

Learning a language opens the door to new opportunities, meaningful experiences, different cultures, and wonderful people from all around the world 🌎.

All levels are welcome, whether you already speak some Spanish or are simply curious to try. There will be something for everyone.

No need to RSVP — just come along and give Spanish a go.

A new Spanish word from Colombia! 🇨🇴
'REVUELTERÍA': used mainly in El Eje Cafetero and Antioquia, means a small neighborhood shop that sells fruits and veggies, like a “greengrocer’s.”
You might also hear 'fruver', a mix of frutas + verduras 🥭🥕

💡Did you know that around 4.000 Spanish words are derived from Arabic? We call them “arabismos”.

☪️🇪🇸This is because Arabs occupied most of the Iberian Peninsula (nowadays Spain) for about 800 years. Between 711 and 1492.

Look at some words we use everyday at home 🏡 (casa=house).
