Liverpool!!! Are you ready?!!! Here is Line Up 4 2moro!!!!!!

03/05/2026

On Saturday 9th May, this is happening. The changes to SEND that the government are currently proposing will remove many children's right to access the kind of education that is right for them. These changes will make the mental health crisis amongst neurodivergent young people much worse. They'll also push more teachers toward burnout and leaving education, which is a bad deal for ALL children.

The demonstrations are happening all over the country. My nearest one is Liverpool (Williamson Square, 11.30 to 13.30), where I've agreed to be one of the speakers.

If you are nearby and want to show your support at any of these events, please do.

Another way you can help is by completing the government consultation: https://consult.education.gov.uk/send-strategy-division/send-reform-putting-children-and-young-people-firs/

Are you an:
- "🙋‍♀️ I love the spotlight 🙋‍♀️" kind of autistic person,
or a
- "🤦‍♀️ please do not perceive me, thank you kindly 🤦‍♀️" kind of autistic person?

Today marks the beginning of Autism Acceptance Month. It can be joyful for some and painful for others.

Some autistic people love this month. It can be a great way to challenge stereotypes and help people to actually understand the perspectives of autistic people.

Some dread this month. People can share information that relies on misinformation and myths about autistic people. Usually, when people do this, they are well-meaning. It's just that these myths are so widespread that it can be hard to know what's true.

Some autistic people are happy in the spotlight. And some would like to hide away (and many are somewhere in the middle of these two positions).

In schools and workplaces, some autistic people can find the attention overwhelming. Some of the young people we speak with in secondary schools, for example, dread the activities that are planned. Some love them!

🔐 The key to making April go well in schools and workplaces is to be flexible about how involved people are. Let people be as involved as they feel comfortable with.

We're sharing this lovely meme, because the name of this month always makes us laugh, too 😁

No Manual? No Problem! Let's write our own...

📙 Ever feel like everyone else got the instruction manual for life… and you didn’t?

🧠 You’re not alone. Many neurodivergent people grow up figuring it out as they go — and that’s exactly why we exist.

As a non-profit, we help schools, workplaces, and ND people themselves understand how brains work — and how small changes can make a big difference.

Profits are returned to neurodivergent communities through wellbeing, self-understanding, community education, and support.

Our work is grounded in lived experience and expert scientific understanding. We combine years of teaching and research with real-world insights from ND people themselves.

Who wants to talk about masking? 🎭

Does your pulse race at the thought of two of your friends from different groups/places meeting by accident?

When we talk about masking, we mean the things we do to stay hidden. Sometimes we don't know consciously that we're doing it. Sometimes we do.

The point is that we've been freely ourselves around people before, and paid the price. So we try to fit in really well with each group. When that doesn't come naturally to you, it means your brain is running a whole extra programme in each social interaction: ActLikePeopleExpect.exe (😆)

That is tiring! It contributes to burnout and reduces our productivity and available brain space for processing things.

🙋‍♀️ If this is you: now you know why you're tired.

👩‍🏫 If this is a child or young person you teach: now you know why they're struggling to learn in your lesson.

Masking is a complicated subject. We can use it strategically (because who wants to answer questions about their neurology all day every day? And are we always really safe to just be our wonderful selves?).

We can also make safe spaces where it is not required. ND people will tell you that often, time with other ND people is restorative. It's a time for real connection without masking. And time alone isn't just a nice thing to have, it is necessary 💚🧠

For the Friday of , let's talk about BURNOUT.

Burnout: when “I’ll just do one more thing” becomes a lifestyle

Neurodivergent people are often very good at pushing through. The problem is we keep going past the point where it’s sustainable.

Burnout isn’t sudden. It’s cumulative. Once it hits, effects can be devastating.

Coping, adapting, masking, decoding the way people say things without ever saying what they actually mean... These all require energy. That's why reasonable adjustments are so important. They reduce the load.

ADHD productivity is not linear.

It’s more… exploratory 😁

Productive procrastination is something ADHD people often use as a strategic tool. We can achieve *all of the things* whilst avoiding that-one-other-thing, which (for reasons we cannot possibly divulge) we must NOT THINK ABOUT BEGINNING TO DO.

Knowing HOW your brain WORKS (not how someone thinks it doesn't) is the key that unlocks progress and life satisfaction. That's our main mission at Wonder (with many, many side quests... 😹)

For day 3 of , let's talk about neurodivergent productivity:

Day 1: solve a complex problem in 20 minutes
Day 2: cannot find the keys that are in my own pocket

Same brain.
Different conditions.

Environmental or contextual changes can impact how much available brain space we have for productivity and how much energy we have.

For those who don't experience this, imagine sitting at your desk whilst desperately needing the bathroom. Your productivity and capabilities drop until that physiological need is resolved. What if the physiological need is for the lights to stop humming, or the smell of someone's lunch to disappear, or for your body to stop flooding with adrenaline because it's in anxiety mode?

There's far more to understand about this topic. Add your thoughts! 💚🧠

Imagine the backpack you're carrying around school is full of rocks: the noises are rocks; the lights are extra rocks; the unwritten social rules are yet more rocks; the itchy uniform adds an even further number of rocks; and the demand to speak, when speech isn't your easiest language, is another big rock. It's heavy. You're coping, barely.

Your teacher says: "Find a partner!"

That's the last rock.

You either collapse under the weight of the backpack, or the backpack itself rips open, spewing its contents across the classroom. Internalising or externalising behaviour. Neither of them mean you'll be able to continue to learn in that lesson.

Learning how neurodivergent minds really work helps us to understand the perspectives of our students, enhances their feelings of safety, and puts them in a better position to thrive.

You can't remove all of those rocks. But you can lighten the load. Each time the load gets a little lighter, that might be just enough to help this person engage with their learning and achieve their full potential 💚🧠

What's the biggest rock in your backpack?
