We know sending that first message can sometimes feel like you’re committing to something.

You’re not. 😂

When a parent enquires with Trust InTuition, the first thing we want to understand is your child.

What are they finding difficult?

Have they lost confidence?

Are they doing absolutely fine but need more challenge?

Are you preparing for SATs, 11+, GCSEs or something else?

And then there’s the practical side — when you’re available, whether you’re looking for online or face-to-face support and how often you’d like sessions.

Only then do we start thinking about which tutor could be the right fit.

Because we don’t want to put a child with someone simply because they happen to have a free Tuesday at 5pm.

We want to think about the tutor’s experience, teaching style and personality — and whether they’re someone we think your child could actually feel comfortable learning with.

Sometimes we’ll have exactly the right person available.

Sometimes we might not.

And we’d rather be upfront about that than force a match that isn’t right.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that tutoring is something you turn to when a child is really struggling.

But that’s only one reason parents come to us.

We tutor children who have gaps in their learning, children preparing for SATs, 11+, GCSEs and A-levels, children who need more challenge — and children who are doing perfectly well academically but have completely lost confidence in themselves.

And that support shouldn’t look the same for every child.

At Trust InTuition, we match children with tutors based on what they actually need — their subject, stage, personality, confidence and the way they learn best.

Sometimes the biggest change isn’t a grade on a piece of paper.

It’s hearing a child who used to say “I can’t do this” start saying “Can I try that one on my own?”

“We tried tutoring before. It didn’t work.”

I hear this from parents more often than you’d think.

And my first question is always: what didn’t work about it?

Because there’s a huge difference between tutoring not working and that particular tutoring arrangement not being right for your child.

Maybe they didn’t connect with the tutor. Maybe the teaching style wasn’t right for them. Maybe sessions weren’t consistent enough. Or maybe there was never a clear plan for what your child actually needed to work on.

That’s why we don’t believe in simply matching a child with someone who teaches the right subject.

We look at the child, what they need support with and the type of tutor we think they’ll work well with — then sessions can be tailored around their individual gaps and goals.

If you’ve tried tutoring before and it didn’t work, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should give up on it.

If you’re sitting at the kitchen table every night trying to help your child and somehow it keeps ending in frustration, please don’t assume the answer is automatically more work.

I’ve worked with children who have completed worksheet after worksheet on something they supposedly “can’t do”...
..when actually, there was one small gap underneath it all that nobody had identified.

I’ve worked with children who absolutely could do the work — but were so convinced they were “bad at maths” or “rubbish at English” that they’d stopped even trying.

And I’ve worked with children who simply needed someone to explain the exact same concept in a completely different way.

That’s why at Trust InTuition, we’re not interested in just giving children more work.

We want to understand why they’re finding it difficult in the first place.

Then we can build the tutoring around that.

Because sometimes the child who “just won’t concentrate” or “never understands their homework” doesn’t need another reminder.

They need someone to meet them where they are and help them move forward from there. ❤️
