Alef Trust

Alef Trust Alef Trust is a nonprofit higher education and community organisation promoting holistic frameworks.

The Alef Trust is a not-for-profit community interest company, registered in the UK. It fosters educational and cultural activities that emphasise transpersonal perspectives. The Alef originates as a glyph depicting an ox in the Proto-Sinaitic alphabet, and may have roots going back to the Egyptian hieroglyph of an ox’s head. The modern letter A derives from these origins, with the ox’s two horns

having become inverted over its long evolution. The connection to the ox for this, the first letter of the alphabet, emphasises the raw, untamed energy of creation and the journey towards channelling this energy into constructive directions. The spiritual connotations of this journey are exemplified by the famous ox-herding images in the Zen tradition, based in turn on an older Taoist story. In Hebrew, the Alef becomes a silent letter mystically depicting the nothingness from which all derives. It is this profound dynamic between the silence of our innermost being and the potent energy underlying all creativity that the Alef Trust seekes to foster in all its work. The Alef depicts the infinite potential that facilitates individual and collective transformation. We are partnered with Professional Development International which delivers and assesses programmes in ‘Professional Development.’ These are quality assured and awarded by Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom.

🌍 Systems Wayfinding: IFS for Social Transformation

How do we navigate complex times without becoming overwhelmed by the systems we are trying to understand, influence or change?

Systems Wayfinding is a ten-week online learning journey bringing Internal Family Systems (IFS) into the field of systems change and social transformation.

Developed by Steffi Bednarek, Founder of the Centre for Climate Psychology, the programme brings together an exceptional faculty including Dr Richard Schwartz, creator of Internal Family Systems; Nora Bateson; Prof Vanessa Andreotti; Giovanna de Oliveira Andreotti; and David Kitchings.

Through practical frameworks, experiential learning and shared inquiry, participants will explore how to recognise systemic patterns, work more effectively with uncertainty, understand where they have influence, and make more conscious choices about how and where to act.

✨ Curious to experience the approach first?

A FREE Systems Wayfinding Masterclass will take place online on 8 September 2026, featuring Dr Richard Schwartz, Steffi Bednarek and David Kitchings.

🗓 8 September 2026.
⏰ 3:00–4:30pm BST | 4:00–5:30pm CET.
💻 Online via Zoom.
🎥 All registrants will also receive access to the recording.

The Masterclass offers an opportunity to experience the framework first-hand, explore the role of IFS in social transformation and systems change, meet the faculty and discover whether the full programme might be the right next step.

🌿 THE NEXT POLITICAL GENERATION | 3–8 SEPTEMBER 2026

What does it mean to be political today, beyond parties, elections and traditional institutions?

This September, The Raft is bringing together people aged 18–35 for five days at Furnace Brook, near Hailsham, creating a space for restoration, brave inquiry, community and collective imagination.

Set within 80 acres of farmland, lakes and meadows, the gathering will explore some of the defining questions of our time, including:

🌍 What politics means in its deepest sense.
📚 The relationship between education and democracy.
✨ The political necessity of beauty.
🧭 How we rediscover collective agency and imagine different futures.
💭 The personal challenge of living with integrity in a society shaped by individualism and the pursuit of capital.

Alongside dialogue and reflection, participants will experience ecstatic dance, camping, cooking, gardening and communal living, reconnecting with nature, one another and what it means to belong.

The programme will also include a National Emergency Briefing community screening and discussion on Friday, 4 September, exploring the social, environmental and human challenges facing us today.

🎨 Explore the MSc student artwork gallery from Alef Trust

Created as part of the Learning Through Integrative Practice module, led by Dr. Ellis Linders, these pieces offer a window into the personal, reflective and creative dimensions of the MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology.

The assignment invites students to develop and engage with an ongoing integrative practice over time, exploring how learning is lived through the body, imagination, relationships, inner life and everyday experience. Creative work is not assessed for artistic technique. Instead, it provides a meaningful way for students to express insight, notice transformation and bring aspects of their learning into form.

The gallery reflects the individuality, care and depth that students bring to this process, with each work holding its own story of inquiry, discovery and integration.

🌱 Have you experienced a conflict situation where you got completely swept off your feet with emotion, the situation escalated and regretful things were said? Did you wish you could have been more grounded to handle it all better?

Embodied grounding is a holistic process that grounds you physiologically, psychologically and spiritually, giving you a safe and stable stance to meet life’s challenges in a way that allows you to respond rather than react.

When fully embodied, we can sense our bodymind as continuous with the Earth’s body and feel grounded in its vast, dependable steadiness, trusting being held by Life itself.

This doesn’t just change how we are in conflict situations, it changes how we are with ourselves, how we relate to the world.

We created Finding Your Ground in Turbulent Times because in our experience people long to feel grounded. And because the world needs us to be grounded, to act grounded.

If you feel that calling from your deep ground, join the self-paced course and online live community here:

🧠 Consciousness as the Fulcrum of Human Existence

What does consciousness tell us about freedom, meaning, mortality and the nature of human experience?

Join the Scientific and Medical Network alongside renowned existential therapist, counselling psychologist and philosopher Prof Emmy Van Deurzen for a fascinating exploration of the meeting point between existential thought and panpsychism.

Drawing on thinkers from Sartre, Heidegger and William James to contemporary voices including David Chalmers and Philip Goff, Emmy will consider how ideas about consciousness can take existential thinking into a deeper metaphysical dimension.

Prof Van Deurzenwill also share how these perspectives inform her clinical practice and her new book, Beginning to Live: The Art of Existential Freedom (Allen Lane, 2026).

🌱 CoFSA × Alef Trust | Transforming Food Systems from the Inside Out

Alef Trust is honoured to partner with the Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA) for the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit in Bhutan.

Our shared approach recognises that lasting food systems transformation requires more than policy, technology and practical solutions. It also depends on how we listen, lead, collaborate and relate to one another and the living world.

Together, CoFSA and Alef Trust are creating spaces where consciousness, care, lived experience and diverse ways of knowing can inform meaningful action.

As part of this partnership, Alef Trust will convene regional online gatherings across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America, connecting global Summit themes with local realities, cultures and communities.

The insights shared will contribute to the wider Summit conversation and support continued dialogue, research and collaborative learning.

Because transforming food systems is not just about changing what we produce and consume. It is essentially about transforming the relationships, values and ways of thinking that shape those systems.

💭 What might our earliest dreams be trying to tell us?

Here, process-oriented psychologist and psychotherapist Mark O’Connell explores childhood dreams, generational dreaming, attachment, grief and our profound relationship with the natural world.

Drawing on an international research inquiry spanning six generations and participants from across the world, Mark reflects on an intriguing pattern: for many people, their earliest sense of belonging was not necessarily associated with a person or place, but with nature itself. A tree, a river, a forest, a mountain or the soil beneath their feet.

At the heart of the article is the story of Mark’s late wife, Marina, and a recurring childhood dream of a Yeti that continued to carry meaning throughout her life, ultimately becoming intertwined with her work in ecology, regenerative agriculture and her final days.

Mark’s research is still ongoing, and you are warmly invited to contribute. If you have memories of childhood dreams, early experiences of attachment, generational patterns, or a meaningful relationship with the land and natural world, please consider completing the short Research Questionnaire on Attachment, Development and the Unfolding Child.

🕊️ A month on from the Caux IDG Forum 2026, the afterglow of our time together at Caux Palace continues to resonate.

From 12–17 July, members of the Alef Trust community gathered above Lake Geneva for The Alchemy of Forgiveness, a five-day exploration of forgiveness as inner practice, relational repair, collective healing and a pathway towards renewed belonging.

Through powerful plenaries, workshops, embodied practice, nature-based inquiry, Candlelight Conversations and moments of deep connection, the Forum created space for grief and gratitude, truth and compassion, reflection and possibility to sit alongside one another.

For Alef Trust, it was a privilege to contribute through the work of our faculty, students and wider community, while also launching our new Centre for the Ecology of Human Transformation, extending the inquiry into how transformation can unfold across inner life, relationships, communities, institutions, culture and the living Earth.

Weeks later, we are still carrying something of Caux with us: the conversations, the encounters, the courage to remain present with complexity, and the reminder that forgiveness is not an easy answer, but a living and deeply human practice.
