🎓 One month into their apprenticeship journey!

It’s been a great first month for our new first-year apprentices as they settle into life at Waterside, developing their theoretical knowledge in the classroom and building practical skills in the workshop.

It’s lovely to see their confidence growing and friendships forming as they learn together. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop throughout their apprenticeships. 🔧⚡

🏆 What an achievement for our apprentices! 🏆

We’re incredibly proud to have had THREE of our apprentices shortlisted for the Apprentice of the Year Award at the Made in the UK Awards, celebrating the very best of the UK manufacturing sector. 👏

Although we didn’t take home the award on the night, being shortlisted alongside some fantastic apprentices from across the manufacturing industry in the North West is an achievement in itself.

A huge congratulations to Nick, Paige and Oliver.
You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves — we certainly are!

Here’s to celebrating your achievements and everything still to come! 🚀

🏆 More award nomination news for our apprentices!

We’re delighted to share that Ellis Davies, who is completing his apprenticeship Pilkington, has been nominated for the IMechE Merseyside & North Wales Region Most Improved Apprentice Award 2026.

Having been named Apprentice of the Year in his first year, Ellis has continued to go from strength to strength and is currently working towards his HND.

A brilliant apprentice and a thoroughly deserved nomination! We’re incredibly proud of Ellis and look forward to celebrating with him at the IMechE Annual Dinner in October. 👏🏆

Congratulations, Ellis! 🎉

🔧 National Manufacturing Day 2026 | Apprentice Spotlight ⭐

As part of National Manufacturing Day, we caught up with James, one of our second-year Manufacturing Apprentices at AB World Foods. 🧑‍🏭

🛠️ Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

“I chose an apprenticeship because I wanted to gain practical experience while working towards a qualification. I feel like learning on the job gives me a much better understanding of manufacturing and helps me build valuable skills for my future career.”

🛠️ What’s your favourite part of the apprenticeship?

“My favourite part of the apprenticeship is getting hands-on experience and learning how to use different machines. I enjoy putting what I learn at college into practice in a real manufacturing environment.”

🛠️ What’s the most important thing you’ve learned so far?

“The most important thing I’ve learned is how crucial accuracy and attention to detail are in manufacturing. I’ve also learned how to work safely and confidently with different machinery and tools.”

It’s been great to see James’ progression since his first year as he continues to build his skills and experience. He’s part of the next generation of manufacturing talent, and we’re proud to support him on his journey! 👏

⚙️ Happy National Manufacturing Day 2026!

Manufacturing is about much more than machines and production lines.

It’s about people, creativity, precision, technology and the skills that make things happen. From apprentices learning their trade to experienced people passing on their knowledge, people are at the heart of the industry. 🏭

At Waterside Training, we’re proud to have partnered with so many companies over the years to train and support apprentices across manufacturing. We’re proud to play a part in helping bring new talent into an industry with so many different skills, roles and opportunities.

Today, we’re celebrating the people behind manufacturing and the work that goes on every day to keep the industry moving. 👏

Another group has successfully completed our Mechanical Maintenance course this week! 🔧

Our Mechanical Maintenance programme is one of our most popular courses, designed to give operators and electrical craftspeople looking to cross-skill a solid grounding in the fundamentals of mechanical maintenance.

Effective training isn’t just about gaining a certificate – it’s about giving people the practical knowledge and confidence to better understand the equipment they work with, recognise potential issues and support effective maintenance.

Due to continued growth, we're looking for an experienced, time-served engineer to join us as an Engineering Mentor & Assessor.

This could be the right opportunity if you're an experienced or retired engineer, ex-forces, or simply ready for something that takes you away from being back on the tools full-time.

You'll use your industry experience to coach, mentor and assess engineering apprentices, helping them develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed.👷‍♂️

We're looking for experience in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, along with a genuine interest in passing on what you know.
And if you don't have an assessor qualification, that's not a problem - we'll support and fund you to gain one.

Interested? Send your CV and a short covering email to [email protected]
