Flow Martial Arts Cornwall
FMA is a martial arts and personal development group that teaches modern and traditional systems. Many people often ask what 'style' is it.
Our main focus at this time is on applied self defence training (hosinsul) which is practical self defence training that covers both fundamental and advanced strategies to first avoid confrontation and then take appropriate steps to protect yourself and those in need.. High levels of fitness are not needed to begin with and you will develop what we call functional fitness over time. There are no h

So proud of the individual progress.. Each one is on a different journey but especially for young J who has reached the half way point (blue/green) to his junior black belt after over 3 years of training.

Mr Brewster working on the 'old man' triangle/ arm bar combination. Old man because by chopping down with the leg and moving the hips out mean that people who are less flexible can still execute a strong technique. It also gives/leads to a number of options to submit, control or destroy from that position.
Train hard and have fun.
Working with our young warrior on his new blue belt syllabus in traditional Hapkido.
7 years old... Great effort learning a new kick.

Congratulations to Chris on his level 2 promotion to blue belt. A humble and experienced martial artist, eager to learn whilst maintaining and utilising his past martial arts experience.
My thanks to Mr Brewster for assisting and confirming the award.
Belts in our Hosinsul/modern self defence system are more ceremonial and just represent a recognition of time, effort, progress and syllabus understanding. There is no formal test and the award is purely on merit.
Level 2 /blue represents the point in our syllabus that a person should have the knowledge and understanding of how to deal with 'everyday' scenarios of self protection from standing, close quarters and the ground against an 'untrained' attacker.

A moment of reflection and celebration.....
Everyone has a different reason for training in the martial arts. Some for fitness, others to improve their self defence skills, the list can go on...
But for some there can be an unexpected deeper result. With consent from the member I want to share their experience.
We have a member who started training with us about 6 months ago. When that member joined I was informed that the person had some mental health and addiction issues and may not be around for long as they were scheduled to go into a rehab facility once approved. We agreed on some basic parameters for training and began our journey together at the club....
The other day I was informed that he/she no longer felt the need to attend the facility as training, discipline and the cameraderie of the club meant they have been clean/sober for a long period and their mental health (and physical) are constantly improving.
All I can say is well done, congratulations and thank you for sharing your story. The club, members and I are honoured to be part of your journey. Onwards and upwards.
