At Mordros, we don't wait for the good weather to go outside. If we did, we'd miss so much. 🌧️💙
Today in Mevagissey, we watched fishermen bringing in their catch, spotted a cormorant drying its wings on the rocks, gently touched beadlet anemones, and watched a herring gull enjoying a crab for lunch.
We splashed in puddles, explored the harbour aquarium, and had wonderful conversations with people we met along the way, including several who stopped to tell us how beautifully behaved the children were.
These are the moments that remind me why we head out whatever the weather. The world is still there in the rain, sometimes all we need is a waterproof coat and a willingness to explore. 🌿

A simple day at Mordros 🤍
This morning was spent with play dough and painting, creating, exploring and getting hands busy. Then this afternoon we pulled on our wellies and headed into the woods for a puddle walk. 💦🌿
Sometimes the best days are the simplest ones, a little creativity, a little fresh air, and plenty of time to play.
“Passion is lifted from the earth itself by the muddy hands of the young.” — Richard Louv 🌿
Sorry we’ve been a little quiet on here lately. Over the last month we’ve been busy welcoming and settling some new little people into Mordros, focusing on giving everyone the time, care and attention they need to feel safe, secure and truly settled 🤍
We’ve still been enjoying all our usual Mordros adventures muddy walks, slow mornings, nature play and taking the lead from the children.
Meet Teresa 💛 (although to the children, she’s simply Manma).
Teresa joined us this month. Having raised four children of her own and a grandmother to six, she brings with her a wealth of experience, care and calm. She previously worked in preschool before moving into social work, where she spent 25 years supporting others before retiring and thankfully agreeing to join us.
She is rarely still, always busily doing something, out in nature, foraging (especially for her favourite, plums!), and bringing that same love of the outdoors into our days. 🌿
Manma has already been such a huge part of Mordros behind the scenes, from helping with the day-to-day running and care of the space, to preparing meals for the week and baking all the healthy treats the children love.
To now have her here full time feels very special.
We are so lucky to have her 🤍
A day in the life of a Mordros mindee 💚
A morning spent wandering through The Lost Gardens of Heligan, noticing the colours of spring, counting bees, chasing our shadows and discovering tadpoles, which sparked lots of curious conversations.
Then an afternoon, back out again, walking the dogs along the local clay trails, still thinking about those tadpoles… so of course we had to find more. Buckets in hand, we took a closer look, searching for tiny legs and spotting any changes, but being conscious to put them back gently where we found them, ensuring we encourage respect for everyone and everything.
Following the children’s interests, letting curiosity lead the way, and using nature as our teacher every step of the way 🌱
Today we visited Trerice and followed the Easter trail, with lots of excitement as we searched for the little chicks along the way 🐥
There were so many lovely activities to take part in, ending with a well-earned Easter egg, which of course was a highlight for the little ones 🍫
Visits like this are such a gentle way to learn too, moving carefully through beautiful spaces, learning to look with our eyes and not our hands, and respecting the world around us.
But alongside that, there were still so many opportunities to get hands-on, to explore, to play, and to truly enjoy the experience in a way that feels meaningful to children.
A lovely balance of care, curiosity and Easter magic 🌸
🟤This morning we spent time exploring the new marble run at Eden and what a wonderful way to learn without even realising it.
Watching, testing, trying again. The children were busy predicting where the marble might go, adjusting how hard they pushed, and figuring out what worked (and what didn’t).
So much learning in such a simple experience, problem solving, early physics, cause and effect, hand-eye coordination, and lots of patience and perseverance.
Learning doesn’t always look like learning, sometimes it looks like a marble racing down a track and a group of children full of curiosity 💛
Over the last two days we have been learning about the celebration of Holi 🌈
We’ve been making colourful cards and little dried fruit gifts for our Hindu neighbours, talking about kindness, friendship and why people celebrate in different ways.
Today we recognised Holi by throwing bright gulal powder with our friends, watching the colours burst into the air and covering ourselves in a rainbow of colour.
This afternoon we took our handmade gifts over to our friends at Penwithick store and post office, sharing smiles and wishing them a happy Holi.
The children have loved exploring this beautiful celebration, learning about the world around them, building community connections and, of course, embracing all the colour and joy 🌈
Today we wandered 💚 Through the woods, up steep hills (with lots of very determined helping hands, even when it perhaps wasn’t entirely useful), and into all the tiny details that so often get missed.
We searched for bugs, paused to listen to the birds, stood quietly by the stream and noticed the first new flowers beginning to emerge. We even voted on the paths to take.
No rush. No big agenda.
Just fresh air, teamwork, muddy shoes and the gentle reminder that there is so much to see when we take the time to look
⚽️🌿 Some days little hands and feet just need to kick and throw. So we listened.
Plans were gently abandoned, we popped into town to choose a new ball, then headed straight to the park for lots of kicking, throwing, climbing and free play.
Big bodies needing movement, energy finding its way out, and learning happening exactly where it needed to, through play 💚
