Visiting Verulamium

On a bright, fresh day with a bright blue sky year 4 set out to go to Verulamium and go back in time. We all walked a bit more gingerly there than back because there was still frost on the ground. At the museum, the children listened well and handled the 1,800 year old artefacts respectfully. They made thoughtful suggestions about what they could be and we could build on their understanding on Ancient Greece to explore some of the objects....

Year 2 love to perform

The children performed brilliantly in their Christmas play 'Everyone loves a baby' and they should be very proud of their enthusiastic singing and wonderful acting. Every single line was delivered clearly as the children reflected on the true meaning of Christmas and had great fun too!

Good vibrations…

This week, year 4 found out how sound is made. They also started to understand that sound travels well through solids, as the string transmitted the sound of the coathangers against the tables very well. The children carried out other investigations to see which medium is the best to transmit sound waves to the ear. Can the children explain how the brain hears sound?

Year 4 recently

This week, the children developed expanded noun phrases to describe the characters in "Cinnamon". They collaborated in groups, to share their ideas. A few weeks ago, The children were excited and proud to see their "Iron Man" writing on the wall. The empty purple board is ready for the children's own Jesse trees. The Roman soldier was not very complimentary about the Britons he came across......

St Alban and The Iron Man in Year 4 08/11/2025

We had wonderful weather to walk to and from the cathedral on Wednesday. I was very impressed by the children's fast walking up and down hills and good listening for crossing the roads etc. The cathedral visit was a brilliant way to both get to know the cathedral a bit as we walked round parts most visitors don't see and were lucky enough to see the pillars illuminated so we could see what they would have looked like before the Reformation in England and the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII....

Welcome to Reception Class! 27/09/2025

27.09.25 Hello children, parents and carers, I am very excited to share with you some of the lovely things we’ve been doing this week. We began the week by thinking about our class saint and saying a little prayer. We all learnt that Saint Adrian is known as the patron saint of teachers, scholars, and students and that his life and teachings continue to inspire Christians around the world to seek knowledge and promote education, just as he did during his lifetime....

Year 5: Viking and Saxon Workshop 26/09/2025

On Tuesday 23rd September, Year 5 walked to St Albans Cathedral for a Viking and Saxon workshop and history was brought to life for us. No sooner had we sat down in the Cathedral a burly Viking named Bone Crusher came bursting in banging his axe against his shield. Bone Crusher and his assistant then spent time with the class in two groups showing the children through role play, artefacts and replicas what life was like in Viking and Saxon time....
